I want to know the process you went through and how you figured out what you were going to do in college. I've been in college four semesters and I just decided to change my major, and am at a point again of uncertainty and indescisiveness. However, I am leaning fairly strongly toward English (writing concentration). any advice/suggestions/stories welcome.

get an internship in each of your interests and see which is better in the real world for you to find work in

Where do you go to get an internship in the English field?

I started out as a Journalism major but changed after sophomore year because I'd thoroughly enjoyed the Psy classes I'd taken as electives.

I knew when I was 16 that I wanted to teach, so it's always been a non-issue for me. Everything I've done that hasn't been related to teaching has been in an effort to provide funding and stability until I am teaching. Pretty straightforward.

i guess i'm just thinking too practical here, but with the economy in its state, i'd be concerned about finding a job, so my major would totally be geared towards such

I think that's pretty sick...living your life around economic ratios...You only get one life, you need to be true to yourself and enjoy it. Much rather be dirt poor doing what I enjoyed than have seven figure income and hate every waking moment or be too busy to enjoy each day. Not to mention that unless good people do what they're meant to do we'll stagnate and eventually perish...there must be a balance between those that take and those that give.

I picked music over a major in science simply because it makes me happy. I know I'll probably have a more difficult time establishing a career in music over something like genetics, but I can't see myself working in a lab the rest of my life. Do what pleases you.

I was 'undecided' for 4 semesters before declaring. Upon arrival, the dean told the freshman class that the 'undecideds' were probably the most honest . I looked at what I liked as well as what gave me the most options for a career. Like the penguin says - it's a balancing thing. But in the end, you gotta choose. Even Zonker eventually graduated. I think.

I noticed a trend of all my science and math grades being high while most others were lower. So I entered college as an undecided science major. Now that it's my second year I've had time to talk to some of my teachers and advisors and I'm still not completely positive but I'm leaning towards getting myself a BioChem degree.

Take a lot of different classes and figure out which fields you like AND are good at (with grades I suppose). A good way to determine if you really like the field, is if you find yourself going beyond just doing the studying for the exam routine. Once you've done that, try to get involved in upper division research programs early on, it will really get you a realistic look at how your field applies outside of the textbook.

I began as a philosophy major, then found out there's no money in that, then went into my second love, science, and started a premed program. Couldn't handle all the chem and physics in that, and then switched to psych, since i LOVED all the psych courses i had taken. And been in that since, hopefully will go to grad school one day.
