How did you find AnandTech?

Friend of mine in the Air Force in 98 was putting together a computer. I was interested in how to put my own together as well, something I've never done before, and he directed me to this site to use. Been here since. Stupid board overhaul at the end of 1999 made us all have to rejoin and I no longer have my 1998 join date though.

As messed up as this place is, you should be grateful we dont have to sign up every two years.

I was referred by a friend when I wanted to research building a computer. Man that was a long time ago..

We were overclocking Slot-A Athlons with GFD's back in those times. I think I can still remember that build for the most part.

I remember it costing damn near $1000.00 to build that sucker, but it would play Half-Life and Quake III Arena like a MoFo. Went to many a lan party with that old rig.

I built almost that exact same rig, with used parts & only 256 MB RAM in a new case, in 2003.
Cost me around $200.00 in used parts from AT FS/FT.

Sold it to one of the Carpenters on the job for ~$700.00!

I never had a Voodoo card. My first home built (after DOS) was a Win98 with Duron 750 and I think a Vanta LT.

Then upgrade to freakin Athlon C, Radeon 64MB VIVO and after a while I was spending about a thousand bucks a year, constantly upgrading and improving and experimenting.

Ya know... I was wrong about the video card.. It was the Voodoo 5 5500 (not the three). I misstated earlier. I remember that thing needing its own ATX molex power plug and the card filled the case front to back in length. I can't remember if it had 2 or 4 GPUs (independent chips) or what the deal was with it, but it was a monstrosity I do remember that much.

It ran the games of the day smooth as butter.

I dunno, the 680 I just ordered is 11" long and 3 slots wide. I feel silly for ever thinking the 5500 I had was monstrous. I think mine had 2 gpu's and I had to cut the guts some in my HP case to make it fit, I do remember that.

Sorry I didn't respond sooner but if I remember correctly, it was demonstration photo of what you could do with an early capture device - think it was called "Snap" - however that picture was posted many times...

I remember that magnificent bastard Red Dawn would post that pic when a troll came wanderin' by....
