So its been two years and I'm tried of consulting, I don't want to travel anymore and instead of breath I want to build depth in industry.

Just started looking and am doing the normal:
talking to my network to see whats out there
uploading resume to sites like monster etc.

Share your wisdom with me!

Have you worked for any companies you would have liked to stay at?
My sister did something similar and was hired by the company, she's still there 4 years later

Not really, its somewhat frowned upon for us to leave the firm and join a client.

Headhunters and friends are the only two ways to go about it.

Sometimes if you are a consultnat, a company you are consulting for will make you an offer but there is a huge price to pay to your consulting firm for doing this.

While I'm sure Monster or other job postings work, I think the best candidates come from referrals or headhunting agencies.

If a headhunter screws up they have a lot to lose so they make sure everyone they put out is a high quality candidate.

I've seen ppl get offers, but the client usually talks to the partners first and get a green light to talk to the practitioner they are interested in. I guess I do have a lot of client contacts, but there isn't really a company that I want to work for. The role is more important than the industry/company to me.

I am working with several headhunting agencies, usually do they reach out to you or you to them? I've done both, some contact me, and i've contacted some (for example glocap).

i put my resume on careerbuilder/hotjobs/monster, actively applied for jobs and got some recruiting emails. after a few months i got one at a company i wanted to work at. i just started a month ago and based on what i'm seeing, the market is pretty good right now to find a job, at least for software engineers.

Put my resume on Monster. Recruiters called me, really didn't have to actively seek jobs.

I was talking to one of my friends from school and he mentioned that the company he started at right out of school was hiring and offered to run my resume up the flagpole. Less than a month later, I had a new job.

for my second job i just went out and searched monster for something that looked interesting. luckily i already had an "in" to the firm so getting an interview wasn't too hard. for my third job it was all about people i knew in the industry. so i guess i'm trying to say is start tapping into your personal contacts and float your resume around with them.

Most of my friends who were at Accenture during the late 90's and early 2000's went to startups in the Valley during the boom, or to more mainline client companies. Even though working for the client was frowned upon, most firms won't mind having ex-employees there, because they'll know that at least someone at the client site has their sh*t together.

I quit and started my own company.
