tell him to buy her some new sneakers and put the ring in the laces, when she opens the box have him lace them up for her, and viola!

Just a randomn thought

We just kind of decided together. We had been seeing each other for years and just starting making plans.

Wife: We've been together for seven years. Do you think we'll ever get married?
Me: OK.
Wife: When?
Me: How about September?
Wife: OK.

Around February of last year, I had planned to propose in Sept. '02 around her birthday, but we had a cruise planned for May 02. I decided that doing it aboard a cruise ship in the middle of the Caribbean would be more special so that's how I did it... at the very front of the ship at dawn on day 3 of our cruise. Was a pain hiding that ring from her for so long though.

For each day of the seven days leading up to Valentine's, I surprised my gf with a little gift and a card. I sent flowers to her job the day of Valentine's. Then I took her out to a very nice restaurant Valentine's night and had the wait staff bring her a card that asked her to marry me. When she read the card, I got down on a knee and presented the ring to her. There was much crying and rejoicing from the wait staff.

I know it was kind of cliche to use Valentine's to propose to my wife but I was using it as cover for my seven days of proposal. We had talked before about how cheesy it was to propose on Valentine's so it worked out perfectly for me. She had no clue what was coming and was caught in a total state of surprise.

well, here in Canada we have these chocolate easter egg type things called kindereggs that are hollow but they have a little plastic egg inside that contains a cheap little plastic toy. My gf and I would always pick them up when we stopped for gas or whatever. Anyway, I bought one about a week before I proposed and cracked it open, put the ring inside and used melted chocolate to glue it shut, and then rewrapped it. On the day of the engagement my gf and I went into the store, and I grabbed 3 kindereggs plus the one that I had put the ring in and paid for all four. interesting thing was when the cashier had the egg with the ring in it she was shaking it and said "i like to shake these things to see if it sounds like there is a good prize inside" i told her "probably" and grinned....
anyway, back to the story, we went for a "kinderegg and coke" picnic, just to sit around and talk, and when she got to the kinderegg with the ring in it and she had opened the toy and dumped it in her hand, I got down on one knee, pulled the ring out of her hand and asked her to marry me. She said yes of course, and started hugging my head (since I was on one knee) and almost busted up my glasses. So, that was last february 1st, and we got married in June. I guess this month is our 8 month anniversary.

and that's my story.

Nice. I FREAKING LOVE KINDER SURPRISES. I eat the big huge $10 one at Easter. They are like sex in wrapping.

But anyway we'd been seeing each other for years and it basically just ended up happening. How romantic

i never asked her. it was always assumed we'd get married after we'd been together for like 3 months. we got married about 1 year after we started dating.

here's a question?? by the time you decide to propose shouldn't it already be an established fact?? i don't understand the proposal thing. proposals to a girls parents makes sense if ur from that culture, but proposal to a girl you already have a relationship with, i don't get it.

that one moment i mean. i think the couple should decide mutually and i think it happens over time.

Just a tradition...like the seventh-inning stretch. Nobody forces you to propose so no big deal.

Yep. If it comes as a total shock to either person there's a good chance you're doing it too early IMO. Unless the person shocked is shocked because they never thought their deadbeat boyfriend would ever get around to it

ya.

what really gets me is when someone proposes in public. i think that is wrong unless it's already been established that you will get married.

if you propose in public and the girl turns you down, you really screwed up big time. if you propose in public and she says yes to save you embarrassment, that's still a big time screw up.

It's a bit traditional but also a bit cheesy, but then what do i know I'm not romantic. I like the kinder egg one below!

We had been dating for almost 4 years, so it wasn't much of a surprize. But I bought a ring and hid it until I had the right timing. I was going to wait until the 4th anniversary of our 1st date and propose at her favorite restaurant. Well a week before that she had this huge craving for that restaurant, so I knew we had to go eat there (she is very demanding when she has these big food cravings - odd since she is 95 pounds). So I grabbed the ring and took it to the restaurant. We were in a peaceful corner with no one around but one elderly couple. I was going to wait until after the appetizer was eaten and before the food came to propose. Well right about then a rowdy family with 4 screaming kids sat down right next to us. Ruined the whole atmosphere. I asked an odd question: "Would you like to go to a park?". We never go to parks, but both love to be outdoors, especially around animals. She had noticed that I didn't eat much of anything, and is smart enough to put two and two together. So she said yes to the after dinner trip to a park.

It was a warm (not hot, not cold, but perfect) September day at the park, a few billowy clouds in the sky, and the sun was about to set. We were greeted by a flock of geese which we really liked. She spotted two ducks floating towards us, the ducks looked like they were a couple. I mentioned how great the ducks looked together, and they are probably madly in love. Then I knelt down on a knee, told her that I was madly in love with her, and asked her to marry me.

I am so thankful of that rowdy noisy family - since that made the proposal so much more romantic at the park.

Actually, she asked me. We had plans to move in together, but unknown to me, she wasn't happy about that plan without our either being married, or at the very least, engaged.

After a big huge fight which I didn't really understand cause I'm a guy and thus naturally clueless, I finally went over and talked to her. I asked her what the problem was, why didn't she want to move in with me. She said that she did, but she wanted to be married to me.

So I said, "so you want to put off moving in for awhile?"

She replied, "no, I want to move in as planned"

Me, "But you said you wanted to be married"

Her, "Exactly, so what do you think?"

Me, *jaw on floor, stunned beyond belief*

Me, "so you want to get married?"

Her, "yes"

Me, "ok, me too"

And that was that. I finally did a nice romantic formal proposal, but she really asked me.

Buy a bunch of Hershey's kisses and go to her locker. Start filling it up with the chocolates. When it gets pretty full, prop it with a piece of cardboard or something, a makeshift funnel if you will. Then completely fill it to the brim with Hershey's kisses. When she opens it, they'll all fall out!!

I had a friend who proposed to his girlfriend while she was on the beach.

While she was on the beach, he skydived out of a plane that was pulling a sign "Susie. will you marry me?"

He missed the beach and landed in the surf. After dragging himself onto the beach he got on one knee in front of everyone and proposed.

She slapped him and told him to goto heck. They had been dating for 3 years.

Man, did he look like a chump.
