How Do I Connect Headphones To A Samsung LN46C630K1FXZA TV

Hi, we have a Samsung LN46C630K1FXZA TV http://www.samsung.com/us/video/tvs/LN46C630K1FXZA for a couple of years now, and I have it connected to an old Aiwa desktop stereo system for better sound and for headphones. There is a speaker out jack in the back of the TV, and I have this adapter (not sure what it's called) that allows two RCA connections (left and right sound for stereo) and the two RCA connectors and plugged into the adapter and the adapter is plugged into the TV. It's analog of course. OK, so we're planning on getting a home theater system, but I don't see any headphone jacks on this new home theater system and I just want to know how I can plug headphones into TV, either directly to the TV or to the home theater system.

The home theater system that we want to get is this Samsung HT F4500 http://www.samsung.com/us/video/home-theater/HT-F4500/ZA
When I plug headphones directly into the speaker out jack in the back, I do hear audio, but I can't control the sound at all. I've used the TV remote as well as the DVR remote to no avail. For one thing, I think the plug is slightly too big. I can fit it in just fine, but I've noticed that the adapter that I use to plug the stereo into it is slightly smaller. Now, I've tried plugging my headphones into the adapter, and I get the same thing, sound, but no means of controlling it. When I have my Aiwa stereo on, I have my headphones plugged into the stereo system, and I can control the volume there.

Again, does anyone know of a way that I can plug headphones into either the TV directly or the home theatre system? Or is there a cheap home theatre system that's similar to the Samsung HT F4500 with a similar price. I'm looking to get a home theater system with a headphone jack and wireless speakers for $300 or under.

Thanks in advance!

Neither your TV or the Samsung HTIB you're looking at have headphone jacks.
The only audio outputs on the TV are the line level output (the one that goes to your stereo currently) and the digital optical output (this is what you should use to hook your TV to the new stereo).
I have no recommendations for an alternative to the Samsung HTIB.

Right, so I do plan on using the optical jack when I upgrade, but I'm looking for a way to hook up headphones. It looks like all the home theater systems out there in our price range doesn't have them, so I'm looking into an alternative.

Can you or anyone else suggest a way to use headphones for our TV. There's got to be an option out there. Is there a cheap adapter I can buy, or something? Thanks

There are numerous adapter and cables sold at Monoprice and Amazon that you could piece together to accomplish this, but nothing elegant or easy to use. There are always issues like volume control, switching, etc.
I'm not sure if your TV has the ability to control the output (volume) of the analog (RCA style) jacks or not. Even if it does, the impedance spec for an output to an amplifier would be different than one to be used for headphones.
You can also go another route, which is buying a headphone amplifier that would connect to the RCA outputs on the TV. They are usually quite small and a lot of them come in kits you have to put together yourself. You'd need one with a volume control of course.
I'm not sure if the analog (RCA) output and the optical output can be used in tandem or not, or if there would have to be some switching involved.

One thing that you might look into is a set of RF wireless headphones like these:

http://www.amazon.com/JVC-HAW600RF-9...ess+headphones

(do NOT get infrared / IR headphones, they suck)

These will plug into the red and white RCA plugs either on your TV or the receiver. They have built-in amplifiers with volume control right there on the headset. (Of course, they do use batteries.) These have been great for me and my family. (Not that exact brand/model, but similar ones, they're all pretty much the same)

OK, so I found someone who knew exactly what I needed. Thanks for the suggestions Soundmanred and slashbinslashbash. I actually found an adapter Soundmanred. Someone told me about a Digital to Analog Converter http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...e+jack+adapter

Using both of those, I could use headphones!

Thanks Soundmanred and slashbinslashbash for the suggestions.

How will you control the volume with that? And how will you have that and your stereo hooked up at the same time? All that adapter is doing is turning your digital optical into another line level output (like the one your TV already has.)
