Paste it in Microsoft Paint

File / Save as...

Save as type, scroll down to jpeg

If you want more JPG options use some other program.

Go get some other image viewer off the net and use that. Go to download.com and do a search to find one

Here:

Open the Clipboard Viewer. Click File, Open, select the *.clp file, and click Yes to confirm that you want to clear the Clipboard contents. Now go to the location you want to paste the item into and press CTRL + V.

If you don't have Clipboard Viewer in 95 or 98 I think you can install it from the CD. I think Windows ME and 2000 automatically install it.

A .cpl file is not a saved clipboard file, a .cpl file is a control panel applet...

if you save a clipboard file it will be named "filename.clp"...

If you have a saved .clp file, doubleclick on the file to open it with clipboard, without closing clipboard, start Paint, hit ctrl-v or choose paste from the edit menu...

After that, you can save it as .jpg, or whatever format you need (that is supported by paint, that is)...

rlism, I think he wants to convert a screen shot to a jpeg from reading a previous posting. he doesn't have to directly view the clipboard for his screenshot but simply paste it in paint & convert it to a jpeg using the save as file option.

Well, he said that he wanted to convert a .clp file to a jpg, then he would have to open the .clp file before he could paste it anywhere, right?

<< I did not have to view the clipboard PCResources & I'm using win98 >>

So i take it that you pressed alt-print screen, went into the clipboard, saved the file as a .clp, emptied the contents of the clipboard (or rebooted) and then you just pasted it without opening the .clp file? How did you do that, can you actually open the file without viewing it?

I think you misunderstood me, if you have a saved .clp file, that you saved some time ago, the copy is not in memory, then how would you paste it without opening it up to get it into the memory?

sequence : 1)press alt-printscreen. (this stores the shot in clipboard).
2) open paint/edit/paste
3)file/save as & choose jpeg from dropdown menu type.

at no time did I have to view the image in clipboard or even open clipboard!

I understand that you didn't have to do that if you just wanted to clip and paste in the same session....

But the question was, "how do i convert a clipboard FILE to a jpeg"...

If you have saved a clip to disk as a .clp file, then you will have to open it...

I understand that you do not have to save it as a file if you just want to clip and then paste in the same session... But if you have a .clp FILE, you will have to open it with the clipboard to make it available for pasting into a program...

If i were to do a alt+print screen right now, then reboot my computer i wouldn't be able to paste that anywhere, now would i, if i did a alt+print screen, opened up the clipboard, saved the file (clp file is the only option) rebooted my computer i would not be able to paste anything because it is not in memory, but if i were to go into the clipboard again, open the file there, i could just hit ctrl-v in any program to paste it...

Do you understand what i am trying to say?

I can do "Save as JPG" in paint for Win98, but I think it is only because I have Photoshop5.5 installed and it adds that option to paint.
I have used IE to change types of image files before...or was I dreaming?

Only options are..(Save As)

Monochrome Bitmap (*.bmp;*.dib)

256 Color Bitmap (*.bmp;*.dib)
24-bit Bitmap (*.bmp;*.dib)

I don't really care as I use PSP6..it was just kinda strange.....
