How do I enable ATA66/100 in Win2K?

Can someone remind me how to do this.... I have done it before and donot remember anymore.

I have Service Pack 2 installed.

I have an 80GB Cuda IV that peaks out at 27.7MB/s in HDTach

It is hooked to a 815E board via an 80Con cable.

The Intel Storage companion says it's running in UDMA-2 which is ATA33. BIOS says it is runninng Mode5 (ATA100)

device manager>primary (or secondary) ide channel>advanced settings>transfer mode

I'm assuming that's what your looking for

just checking here but the blue end of the ide cable is inserted into the m/board connector isn't it?
also check that dma is enabled for the drive like spyordie007 suggested

I have an interesting situation... It is a Dell i815 board in a dimension4100. I have a TEKRAM DC-390U3W with my 2 main drives on it (Quantum Atlas 10KIIs). I then have the 80GB Cuda on the primary MB IDE channel set as master. The drive does not auto detect on boot (but it DOES appear in BIOS) and then hangs for quite some time because I think it is trying desperately to boot from the IDE drive because if I unplug the IDE drive it boots without hang. YES, I have my boot order correct in BIOS. 1st & 2nd Boot devices are the TEKRAM controllers (2 on the board). THEN my IDE drive is not even visible in Win2K SP2 until I install the Intel ATA storage driver/companion and then the IDE drive is visible.

This is all very wierd.

Yes, my CDROM and CDRW are SCSI also and hooked to the TEKRAM, so the CUDA is the ONLY IDE device and it is hooked up via 80cond MB (BLU)<--------->(BLK) HDD (pri/master)

I have dealt with this for a year now. I have thought about getting a new MB/Case/PS that could handle an interracial system (IDE/SCSI) but I can't justify that stuff at the moment.

I am quite sure it is a DELL BIOS issue. I have the LATEST BIOS too!

IDEAS? ANYONE?

find out who the actual manufacturer of your mobo is off the FCC ID and flash it with their bios.

Dell wouldnt support it, but if you messed it up and it's under warranty you could just call them and say "uh, it doesnt work...."

Are you getting any "ide"-related error messages in the event viewer? (i.e., connetion to ide/port/0 has timed out...)

You know, I thought about tracking down the BIOS from the real manufacturer (I bet it's Intel themselves) but I was timid to do so since I couldn't be without a computer if in fact I mucked up the BIOS! SCARY.
