I want to upgrade my processor but for the life of me I can't figure out where 479 starts and 478 stops. Everyone tells me the P-M 755 (socket 478) is the one I should get (as opposed to the 760 which is 479). For a while I was thinking "ok, 478 must be the 400mhz FSB and 479 be the 533mhz FSB," but now I'm not so sure.
When I ran CPUID on my existing 1.4ghz (400mhz FSB) P-M, I come up with this:
Name: Intel Pentium M
Code Name: Banias
Brand ID: 22
Package: mPGA-479M
Technology: 0.13u
Voltage: 0.956v
Can anyone tell me what that sequence by "package" means - what does the 479 represent there? And just what is the difference between sockets 478 and 479?
btw, Intel's website is a mess for getting info about their processors. Thanks for the help.
