How do I get rid of all these pop up ads?

This is really strange! A couple days ago I started getting pop up ads on my desktop when I had no programs including IE running. Can anyone explain what is going on and how I go about getting rid of these ads?

Disable messenger service. And get a firewall.

run spybot search and destroy or adaware. You probably installed some adware like gator or gain.

I've disabled messenger and I'm already behind a firewall. I'll try the above program and see what happens. Thanks!

jonmullen, Thanks for the info! I found Gator on my PC along with a bunch of other crap. I used Spybot so I hope I've got everything.

some of those spyware programs are very difficult to eradicate. I had to boot into safe mode and delete a folder the other day, to get rid of hotbar in a client's computer. What a PITA!

Get Noads, search it up on google! If i'm correct the website should be www.noads.com IT works great for me!!
Do you have problems with like the messenger stuff or is it just ads?
