There is a way to fix it but I forget how... hmm, I will look into it and edit this post if nobody has replied by the time I wake up.

btw if you right click the folder, hold it down and drag to anywhere you can move it and all contents, and winxp will be aware of it's new location (i.e. files that XP defaults to save to My Documents will still save to My Documents, where ever you've put it now).

Also, you can right click on my documents on the desktop and point it to another folder. Then all of the apps that look for "my documents" will go to whatever folder you use for storage. That is what I do. I just have my own folder on a separate drive and point my docs to it.

Well since everyone gave you a useless answer heres what you do:
1. Go start then run
2. Type Regsvr32 /u mydocs.dll and hit enter
3. Delete the my folders and they won't come back

In case anyone else tries this, move any useful files out of My Documents before following Atlantean's instructions. I neglected to do so, and was unable to access any of my files after doing step 2 in the post above. I had to run "Regsvr32 /i mydocs.dll" (to put everything the way it had been), move my files, and then repeat step 2 above.

edit: spelling

I have been using the Regsvr32 /u mydocs.dll command for a while but I notice that they come back everytime i do something in msconfig or anything like that. is there a way to auto unload them at startup? autoexec.bat or somethin?

Hmmm... After thinking I had almost lost my files earlier, I backed everything up and just got around to trying again. I can't delete My Documents. I get an error message saying it's a sytem folder. Is this because I use the Administrator account as my user account or because I use Win2k?

No idea, what I posted was only for winxp, not sure if it works on other operating systems... the op asked for winxp.
