If you're going to wait a few days anyway, why not just set up an appointment with a doctor rather than going through the ER? Your insurance will have kicked in by then and you won't have to deal with the ER, which, let's face it, is a shitty place to get care. Not that the level of care is poor, but it takes 3 years to get seen, and you're not going to be a high priority with a 3 day old injury.

Well I need to figure out if its urgent or not. I'm not throwing up or anything my head just hurts kinda bad sometimes. Even my primary care doctor charged upwards of 250 for a regular office visit without insurance. This happened yesterday, and if I need someone to do it today I will go today. I wasn't going to the ER anyway.

Its not like they have a magic cure-all touch...theyre just gonna tell me to take it easy, but I need to figure out if I actually have to go or not...so I want to give myself a test. like pupil dilation or whatever

from the mouth of a pauper, that really hurts my feelings.

considering that I've divulged almost no personal information on these forums, I'm not sure how you got that.

Only thing i've mentioned about myself was that I have polk speakers and drive a jetta. So which of those 2 are you using to judge that you'd be a prince to my pauper?

If you aren't sure you have a concussion, then be careful, and treat it as if you had one ...

How do I give my self a concussion test?

Go into the kitchen and procure a frying pan. Hit yourself five times in the face with it. If you complete all five hits, you don't have a concussion. If you black out before completing the set, you have a concussion.

Hope that helps.

Well go get a BJ, if you have a concussion you'll pass out, if you don't, then you're OK.

If I can wait 3 days..I'd rather do that.

Brain injuries aren't something you really want to mess with. And no website is going to be able to tell you if you actually have a bleed or if you just need to take it easy. See the doc.

what would you do if you had a concussion

did you read the thread at all? If I actually had one, I would go see a doctor regardless of price. Want to check before I go spend money...

ski patrol looked at me, said I was ok. I remembered the date, where I was, and what happened, I also drove home and felt fine all night. Woke up with a headache, been off and on today.

She fell, no helmet, felt like shit an hour later and went to the hospital. I was probably doing about 30-40mph, saw a little kid hiding beneath a jump on a black run, bailed, lost a ski, landed on my stomach and face planted into the snow and broke my goggles, had some snow in my helmet. Was able to stand up and hike back up ~30 ft with my poles to get my skis. Didn't feel like shit till this morning after I woke up and had some eggs and spam.

Did a damn good job dodging that little girl though.

I like this idea. Win-Win. If I do have a concussion, I get a BJ, if I don't, I still get a BJ.

"Signs and symptoms of a concussion may include:

Headache or a feeling of pressure in the head"

"When to see a doctor
See a doctor within one to two days if:

You or your child experiences a head injury, even if emergency care isn't required
"

My health insurance doesn't kick in till the 1st...and I fell on my face skiing yesterday and I've got a headache today. What can I do to check my self out?

Pupil dilation?
If you are waiting for your pupils to change sizes, it's already too late. RIP

Had that once. Got my neck all out of whack and had a tight spot where it would just pull a bit when turning my head to the one side. The pinched nerve gave me headaches off and on over the next couple days. Went to my chiropractor (a GOOD one) and he got things back where they belonged. I could turn my head without that yanking feeling, and the next day I was feeling more normal again.

<cue the "all chiropractors are quacks!" posts>

Oh, and BTW, who is to say your insurance is going to cover (nor should it) an injury you sustained before your coverage started?

Go to a clinic. Get checked out ASAP. You never want to play around with head injuries.

Obama says my insurance is going to cover it.

You'll likely be fine, just don't hit your head again for a while

Am assuming you're young, <40, if that's the case, your brain can take a lot more trauma than an older brain, where there isn't as much spring in the suspensory components of the brain.

You likely do have a concussion, but essentially, there's no treatment, just monitoring. If you begin to have symptoms, like numbness, dizziness, lose control of your bowel or bladder, vision gets jacked up, go to the ER and rack up a $5K bill for a CT scan that will show nothing, and the ER doc sill suggest you not bump your head for a while...

That's what I figured.....I was reading WedMD all evening and it basically said "Go to a Doctor so they can tell you to go home and take it easy. If it gets worse, go to the ER"
