OP, do your mom a favor and talk her out of a rabbit. I have two I inherited from a now-disinterested daughter, and they don't make very good pets, imo. Maybe you can litter train them, I haven't tried that because ours live outdoors in a hutch, but they produce a lot of waste. I've read that they have no control over expulsion of feces pellets so I don't know how they can be trained in that regard. They also don't really have any affinity for humans, and they generally don't enjoy being handled or played with. I'm sure some other owners here will have had different experiences, but what I've read suggests that mine are more common.
When you get tired of rabbit you make hasenpfeffer. That's the great thing about keeping food as a pet.

Daughter: Dad, what happened to Fluffy?
You: You weren't taking care of Fluffy anymore so we found a farm for it to live on. Here, have some stew.

I'm of the belief that rabbits need a lot of handling from about the age of 8 weeks old to be great pets. They're also prey animals so they have to be handled quite differently than dogs or cats, mostly they just need gentle handling.

They can be really fun, but I'm not at all surprised at the behavior of your rabbits. It would take quite a bit of patience and time to get them used to people, I bet. Rabbits are creatures of habit, so they take easily to a schedule like regular feeding times, which also makes them not too difficult to litter box train.

Go to a shelter. You may have a dedicated bunny shelter nearby, otherwise most general SPCAs/shelter do have bunnies.

I've talked with someone extensively on the subject who keeps rabbits as indoor pets, had them litter trained, although the strategy is less having a box that they use and more like putting boxes where they want to go. Instead of cat litter she used alfalfa pellets. Oddly enough rabbits tend to eat a bit of their litter, so do not let it alarm you.
The poo is excellent fertilizer as well so a litter that is garden safe is nice. French lop is one of the more popular pet breeds and the one she had iirc... And she stressed that the inside of the cage is the rabbits safe zone, so not to mess with it while it is inside the cage.

You know how I know you live in Canada? ;P

LOL.

OP, can you put me in touch with Patrick, so that we can maybe develop an overpriced line of circuit breakers? I mean, there is no point in plugging a five-thousand dollar power cord into a branch circuit that cost ~$30 to install, right? Why hook up ultra-pure isolated copper to an aluminum service drop going through a plated buss bar, am I right?

Sorry, this thread is about rabbits, which I mainly have experience in eating and not petting. The few pet rabbits I have experienced were not really all that personable, so I guess maybe you should elaborate or have your mom post here on what she hopes to achieve from her pet. I'm pretty sure your cat does not want a pet rather than satiate it's predatory instincts with some rodent prey. If you think the plastic bubble idea will do that, then more power to you, but I have a feeling both predator and prey will get bored when they realize they are dancing for a dimwitted primate.

Sigh. I wish his threads weren't troll threads. It would be hilarious if a pet rabbit chewed through his 20,000 dollar power cables. But alas, the power cables are a joke/troll, as I believe the hamster/cat are.

I'm pretty sure he just let slip that he is patrick..

So you are new then. I have a lot of folks here that know me, and as a matter of fact they even introduced me to Patrick so we can get along like close friends. I am not lunatic. I am an "artist". I think outside the box, explore new things that most folks don't know of.

Power cables are not joke nor troll. But I don't talk about it anymore as Mods begged me not to talk about it as it causes more flame wars. I am doing you guys a favor. I am cool! And hamsters for my cat was serious.

Having rabbits in my house wasn't a plan because they may chew my $40k and $6k power cables. I fear the hamsters too, because once they escape from cage they could chew my power cables. HELL NO I can't let that happen. NO pets in my house other than my pussy cat. She is very well behaved and have great manners and she doesn't go chew anything like that. She is very careful.

I talked to my Mom about it and now she says she doesn't want it. Changed her mind. She can't handle anymore mess as her dog (one of the two) pisses everywhere including furniture and carpet... Add a rabbit in the house and it will be even more mess.

Just don't get too many...
Now that's cute. I like that.

My cat is in my house. My Mom has her own home. She and my Dad currently own two dogs. She doesn't like dogs. She wants a rabbit now.

If it's so much work with the rabbits then I think I will just forget about getting one....

I need to get something for my pussy cat! She is lonely. Only thing she can do is look out the window and watch birds flyby and rabbits running around the lawn.

I would think the dog info would be pretty high up on the list of things you should include when you want to talk about getting a pet that may end up as dog food.

poorly worded, but size and breed of dog can preclude your mom from keeping the rabbit alive.
