I had two computers crash at work. One the hard drive failed so I replaced the hard drive and re-installed the OS. It is working fine but I took the wireless card out of it.

I am now trying to install a wireless card in the other computer. The wireless card came out of a Dell Inspiron 620 and I am trying to put it in an HP (hp pro 3400 series mt). I reformatted the HP because the Ethernet port was not working so I figured that might fix it but I tried to install the driver for it and it still does not work. I was hoping to get the wireless card to work in the HP computer.

Here is pictures of the wireless card and the HP I am trying to install it in.

How do I make these work together?
Both OS are windows 7 home premium 64 bit

If I need to provide anything else let me know.

Most HP have code in the BIOS that list only few Wireless card to be allowed to work on the specific model.

Then if you want to upgrade they will sell you for over $100 a Wireless that otherwise can be found on for less than $20.

I tried few times on few HP Brand computers to search for a free market upgrade and never succeeded.

When you install the card, does it not detect at all or anything.
As far as i know, you should be able put any card into the hp machine.

The one thing that may be an issue is the "junk" on the contacts of the wireless card, and it may not be making proper contact

You could try the card in the x1 and the x16 slot to see if it detects in either
You could try taking the wireless card off the adapter card and try it in the mini-pcie slot itself, just to see if it detects at least

I have noticted this on the laptops, but have not seen it on the desktops, but it could be that they started to do that with this one as it could have an optional hp supplied wireless card

Well that just sucks.
Can i buy a USB wireless adapter and use that you think or do you think I will run into problems there too?
I am also looking to add an HDMI video card should I be worried there? Or do you think anyone I buy online will be and run okay.

It does not detect the card. I can not let windows try and find a driver because my ethernet port is not working and not taking the drivers I am transferring from a USB drive.

I tried acquiring the drivers for the ethernet port but it still does not work.

I am however going to try the wireless card in every slot.

So I tried the wireless card in every slot and it is still not working. By searching at work I came across some sets of recovery disks. I tried each set and found the one for this computer. I have the ethernet port working now so my next step is to get a wireless card or device so that I can get it to be on the network.

Anyone have a suggestion for a cheep way to get this computer wireless capabilities?

Just buy a USB or PCI/PCIE card (whichever the PC can take), using a Dell card is a HP box may or may not be ok, YMMV.

Out of curiousity, what type of expansion slots does the HP have? The card in the picture is PCIE x1

These are desktops, right? There is no BIOS whitelist on desktops, AFAIK. HP is notorious (along with Lenovo) for whitelists on laptops. But desktops are unaffected.

Also, on the laptops, HP only whitelists the mPCIe slot for WiFi and leaves the others (if any exist) alone. So if you have an HP laptop that has an extra mPCIe connector for cellular, you could use that for WiFi to get around the whitelist.

So I bought a USB wireless dongle and had it connect to my network that way. I also bought a new video card to see if I can add an HDMI port.

I have it all up and running and transferring data over the network being also in the same home group. I had some problems with permissions on folders but so far by just going into the properties for each folder and letting everyone have read and write permission it has been fixed. We will see what tomorrow brings cause when I restart it does not automatically connect to the wireless Internet

I never tried it myself, but you could use that card for any mpcie wireless card, in theory. The Dw1502 card in there is an atheros ar9285. If anything you could try base drivers, though you are mostly done here.

.

Lenovo pulls this same BS on their machines, displaying a post code that an "unauthorized wireless card" was found. Who the hell are they to say what is and what is not an authorized card? I bought the friggin thing!
