I have a GTS, and every time when I try to install the video drivers from Nvidia, I do this: Right click on My computer, go to properties, then to the device manager, then video card, and update driver, I dont let it search, I find it for it, then it installs the drivers, but after the install it says "An error occured during the update process" or something to that effect, then I restart, and it disables the video card, when I enable it, it puts the default XP drivers back on. I have tried this with self installing drivers and the ones in a zip file. I cant get this to work, can someone help? Thanks

I would suggest the self-extracting driver file, but if you really need to know how to change it I will explain. If 'update driver' does not work, choose to "install from a list or specific location". Next pick "Don't search, I will choose the driver". If it doesn't show the driver, click on "Have Disk". Then go to location you have the driver in.

Thats exactly what I did. Is there something you have to do before hand? I installed these non- self extracting drivers a couple months ago, but I tried to update and it diverted to the original XP drivers and I cant get back to the new ones! This is crazy. There has to be a way around it.

prior to attempting the update, uninstall the present drivers. boot, if not back to WindowsXP natives, repeat this process
until you are.

then:

When you tell it don't search and the window that pops up only shows you drivers that have been previously installed!

you have to click 'have disk' and then browse to the folder containing the new drivers that you unzipped

you should see the nv4_disp.dll listed. select that and say OK. then you get another window showing the available

flavors of this new driver set. select the correct one for your video card and hit OK and continue to finish the installation

clicking OK, etc. as necessary.

Note: check to see that your monitor is showing the correct device info. before and after your install. If it has reverted

back to standard monitor, make sure to reinstall your monitor drivers and reboot.
