Every time i boot up the computer hangs on asking for a password.
How dod I kill the requester offer so it just finnishes booting?

It used to be that way till I refreshed win98, so I know it can be done.

I tried deleting my .wpl file but it makes a new one...

anyone know how?

If I recall right TweakUI can solve this problem. It will basicly enter the info for you at startup. I have not used tweakUI in a long time so I can't remember for sure.

I believe your problem can be solved via the registry. Using Regedit, navigate to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Network \ Real Mode Net \ AutoLogon=<x>

If AutoLogon is set to 0 (zero) it should logon automatically.
If AutoLogon is set to 1 it should enable the network logon dialogue box.
(Yes it sounds strange, but with the key value set to 0, autologon is ON.)

If the AutoLogon key is not there, create a new key, name it "AutoLogon" and set the key value to 0 or 1 as desired...
Try that out and let me know...

Just remove the Client for Microsoft Networks from the properties of the Network Card.

Ooh, don't do that! I don't know the specifics, but I've been told by a couple of sources that the Client for Microsoft Networks is important for network stability.

"AutoLogon" was not present so I set the netwoeking card to both the below values and rebooted each time but still got the requester for entering password.
I was not sure under which field you meant for me to enter the "AutoLogon=0" or the "AutoLogon=1"
There is a field named (default ) and it has a (no Value set) just as I typed both with paren's

Doesn't that feature ( Client for Microsoft Networks from the properties of the Network Card ) provide for sharing files and/or printer sharing on my LAN ?

After Zelmo3's comment I am wondering, but my networking theory and knowhow is limmited to setting up the network to do what it is meant to do, share resourses and some comunication, between my 5 computers.

Okay, sorry I wasn't more clear. What I am hearing is that when you got to the "Real Mode Net" folder (or key) there was no item in that folder named "AutoLogon." If this is the case, you will have to create a new value inside the "Real Mode Net" folder.
1. Make sure the "Real Mode Net" folder is selected.
2. Right click in the right hand pane (anywhere in the white space) and click on "New" and then click on "DWORD Value." Regedit will create a new item with a generic name (eg. New Value #1).
3. Rename this new item "AutoLogon" (with no quotes).
4. Double click on the new AutoLogon item and then change the value data to either 1 or 0. Since you want to disable the logon window, I think you want to enter a zero.

You said: "I set the netwoeking card to both the below values."
I am not sure what you mean here, or what you did, or where you entered those values... in short, if you didn't do what I explained above, I would suggest changing the settings that you did change back to the way they were prior to changing them. All you should have to change is this registry setting.
Keep me posted!

No, XP and 2000 are much different operating systems than the Win 9x and ME series. If you only have one user setup on the WinXP machine, and it isn't a member of a domain, then it should logon automatically, though that can be changed in the "User Accounts" control panel. In that control panel you can easily change whether you want to be greeted with a logon prompt, and whether each user is required to enter a password. I have my XP machine set to just boot straight to the desktop. Good lcuk with the upgrade and I'm glad to hear that you got Win 98 functioning like you want it... every once in a while you have to smack it around a bit and show it who's boss!
