I've never had any concern for GF. Maybe it would be good for me, don't know. I'm not aware of having a problem with respect to G. Is it universal? TBH, I don't pay attention.
I also try to limit my sodium intake. I refuse to buy anything except the low-sodium soups and deli meats (if I even buy them at all); a single can of regular soup has 1500mg of sodium! It's insane. With chips, I tend to buy the lower-sodium tortilla chips, but I will occasionally go for the sour cream and onion, though those have 190mg of sodium per serving. I only buy unsalted butter as well.
My blood pressure has been relatively high for a while - around 135/80, even with going to the gym 2-3 days a week. I've recently started running three mornings a week and it has gotten lower - 125/75. I just had an appointment with my doctor and he commented on it. Part of it was most likely stress, as I've been dealing with a lot of anxiety over work, but I am starting to change my mindset and ease a lot of it.
Maybe six years ago, my BP was around 115/70. I didn't exercise a whole lot back then but I was certainly under less stress.
Never had a migraine in my life. In fact, I have never had a serious head ache. I've had a few fleeting ones but nothing serious much less excruciating.
Soda... I took to drinking 1 can of diet cola a day around 25 years ago and one day around 2005 I guess a Costco guy, the one who checks your receipt as you leave, commented to me that the case of diet cola I had on my cart wasn't good for me! I did NOT get angry with him, I just asked myself WTH I was drinking this stuff! I stopped, cold, never craved it since.
Candy, well, TBH I can take it or leave it. I have some in the house. I finished my last Uno bar last night and figure the odds are good I will never eat another! Other than that, I have stopped even chocolate lately. It's psychological... i.e. nothing! I have chocolate. I don't pig out. I figure to lay off the stuff for a while as I get my weight under control. I'm not obese, never have been, but am ~10lb overweight. I'm taking measures. For me, that means (sometimes) cutting out the stuff that's marginal or not particularly good for me. I don't do that much, but cutting it out entirely gets me good traction on any weight issue. And I really don't miss that stuff. I like a lot of things that ARE good for me!
Count yourself lucky 👍
Migraines are a horrible, debilitating, life ruining affliction. I saw numerous doctors, had CAT scans, etc... None of them ever mentioned food allergies.
It wasn't until my wife, who works in the schools food service department, went for food allergy training and came home to tell me that I should quit eating wheat because the symptoms I complained about all my life were a result of food allergies, and specifically a gluten allergy. I laughed it off, after all....I've tried so many things, stop eating wheat? 3 months later I had Chinese food and half a beer the night before an important event, I was sick for 2 days and missed the event. That was enough, I said to myself: you've got nothing to lose. And thus my journey began.
Anyways, I think the OP has a lot to work with here. Eat more whole foods that are naturally low sodium / high potassium, exercise, drink plenty of water.
The exercise gets more selective as you age, just do what you can moderately.
Give your wife a very special extra hug (& etc.!), man, count YOURSELF lucky! 👍Count yourself lucky 👍

I identify with you. I have had high blood pressure for many years, and when it started, I was very thin and exercised regularly. I really got tired of people saying "you are skinny and work out, how can you have high blood pressure?" I think there is a genetic component, as my mother had quite serious HBP. Of course stress and diet also play a big part.My BP was a whopping 170/105 today at the docs. Needless to say they have put on BP meds. I aint even fat or out of shape either. They also think I have anxiety so I am on prozac for that. Dunno if that can impact BP. Fun times. Hopefully I don't blow my top before I can get it under control.
I've been struggling with my BP for years so this sucks. I got it under control the last couple of years and foolishly went off my medicine, I guess that makes me an idiot.

April 27, 2000 -- A new study from the U.K. confirms previous research showing vitamin C supplements can lower blood pressure.
But other research shows that vitamin C supplements also might harden the arteries, increasing the risk for heart attack or stroke. So what should you do?
"I believe vitamin C from a balanced diet is much better for people than popping capsules," says study co-author, Martin D. Fotherby, MD.
