Print Screen, more commonly found on keyboards as PrtScrn or such. The image is placed on the clipboard so you can paste it into your favorite image editing application.
If you press Alt+PrtScrn, you only capture the active window. So if you get an error popup, use Alt+PrtScrn and only capture that small dialog instead of the entire desktop.

and if you do what Zucarita9000 mentioned, paste it into MSPaint, and change the color depth to 16 colors, and you will make some nice, small sized BMP files that will clearly display your pop-up messages.
