How do I make my printer print from my laptop?

Hello All

How do I get my laptop (actually, daughter uses it for college) to print form my older Epson 880 color printer.

Can it be done to with some type of wifi adaptor from the wifi laptop to the printer or should I just leave my computer on always and somehow magically have it done that way

What way is it set up? Laptop and printer... and presumably another computer? Can't you bring the laptop over and connect it to the printer? Do you have a home network?

You say its an older printer. Is it a pre vista printer and is the Laptop running Vista. If so you won't be able to find drivers for the printer that will work in Vista so you won't be able to get the 2 to work together. But if its an older printer and the laptop is running XP then we need to look at your current network setup. otherwise you'll need a new printer which may not be a bad idea giving her, her own printer.

If you don't have a network set up in your house you'll need one. But i'm guessing you already have a wireless router that your PC is connected to threw an eithernet cable and that your daugter's laptop connects too wirelessly for internet. That being the case you need to go to the control panel and start the home network wizard on both PC. It will walk you threw setting everything up. Then make sure the printer is set to be shared across the network. Then her laptop will be able to assess the printer so long as your PC is on.

Both of your suggestions are "doable". Although, you'll probably better off getting a wifi adapter for the printer instead of leaving your PC all the time. Or another option is to get a new printer with built in wifi capability.

Thanks everyone for your help, and yes my daughters lappy has Windows VISTA and my gaming computer still uses WinXP.

my old printer (no vista drivers) is shared through my stationary since it uses the lpt1 port. I have installed a wireless network and can then print from my laptop through my desktop, but of course the desktop needs to be on. That will probably be the best solution, since you also get wireless access for your computers.
