How do I re-enable a partition to show in my freshly installed windows?

I just did a fresh install of a windows and my second partition with all the drivers arent showing up... I remember this happened last time too, dont remember what i did, but i fixed it somehow, anyone know how?

The senario:I orginally had c: with windows and d: for storage, I formated c: and reinstalled windows and now d: is not showing up in windows, (BTW: the HDD is connected on ATA66 controller of Soyo6ba+IV!

You did a view>refresh in windows explorer, right? When you run fdisk, the second partition is displayed when you do an option 4? If you've done both of these, then heck I don't know.

yea did both of those, cept in fdisk it doesnt show the type for the extended partition (FAT32) its just blank...

well i decided to plug it into the IDE slot ATA33 and in system it shows is as standard disk drive, where as before it was shown as WD205BA or something like that...

When you're out of options, why don't you try fdisk/mbr and see if rebuilding the master boot record will bring it back.

did that, i think i remember now, it had something to do with that WD disk, cept i dont remember what... yarr

I just ran it through the WD disk and it said that a partition table was not found! I'm supposing thats why...how can I fix this?

See when you partioned c: you made that partion active! so you assumed that d: would still be there! But what happened is you fdisked the whole hard drive! So what you have to do is fdisk the other part of the hard drive with either a logical or extended partion! Then yoou have to go and format that partions as well1 That should help!

I've never used partition magic, but if it has a partition recovery tool, you have a fighting chance. Norton used to have one, if I remember correctly.

I haven't had any experience with partion magic, But I hear that it should help up out! I usually use fdisk! partion magic won't hurt if that doesn't work then you will have to consider re-doing the whole computer!

Does the main partition show as using the whole hd?
Do you have logical drives in the second partition?
If you don't have logical drives in the second partition windows will not recognize that there is two partitions.

What I would do is start over. Do a complete removal of all partitions, reboot, fdisk again and make your partitions, add logical Drives to your second partition, and install windows in the active partition.

This should solve the missing partitions. Installing windows doesn't take that long and that way you know everything is setup right. Partition Magic should work. But if doesn't then your back to square one.

if anything will work partion magic will. not a guarantee. but I use it alot and it has helped me were other utility's have failed.

the second partition is an extended partition in Fdisk and i just made the whole thing logitcal dos now too, it appears in Windows, but i cant access it, it says a disk utility is locking it up... I just found partition magic down stairs, cuz as i was running upstairs i tripped and cracked the CD on the stairs! @#$#^%%$^$%^%$ i'll go to bestbuy today and see if i can pickup another one, really dont want to start the d: partition over again because i dont have a backup and thats where all my important stuff is! Plus over 4gigs of mp3's!
