how do i replace PSU fan? I have the NMB 80mm to use...

Hey gang,

I've got four more NMB 3110KL fans that I like alot. Just got em for $2 bucks a piece and want to put them to work. I've already replaced my case fan, and it made a difference. Now I want to replace the PSU fan, and then buy a new 80mm HSF for my Athlon to take my computer into the quiet zone. I may have to rename my computer "The Library" if this all works out. ha ha

Anyway, do I just open up my Antec 300W power supply (its in an Antec 1040 ? case) and unscrew the actual fan blade, or will I be taking out a fan assembly and then just bolting down the NMB in its place? I haven't even cracked the PSU yet as I want to know how much work is involved before I make my first attempt at electrocuiting myself.

Do be super careful inside of the power supply. The fan in there is just like any case fan and it's usually pretty straight foward.

to replace the fans.....just open the PSU, don't touch anything you don't have to. you'll replace the entire fan. cut and strip the wires going into the old fan and splice them into the new fan's wires. then just wrap them up w/ some electrical tape. i did this to my enermax 350W w/ an 80 and a 92mm panaflo and it made a HUGE difference, you'll like the results.

Make sure to wait a few minutes so the capacitors discharge.

check before you cut any wires. twice I've had a fan attached by a connector and just plugged the new lower rpm fan in.
