Like now when I do a startx .. I get into gnome, but I want to try KDE .. and I have no clue. I know KDE is installed because I selected both KDE and Gnome when I setup my redhat install .. but I left gnome as the default cause I heard people here say that redhat favours gnome or something. What do I do?

Oh yeah .. and my desktop is kind of fuzzy and it shakes. I am running a G400 at 1280x1024 and I know my monitor is okay with that cause that's the res I run on my windows box. The two machines are hooked up to a KVM (cybex switchview) ..

If you use Redhat, you should have a menu of KDE, Gnome and failsafe on your login window.
Well, I'm new to this, but that is what mine is like.
If you actually installed KDE, you could see the program groups from Gnome's main menu.

the answer lies within your X init script. If you have a ~/.xinitrc, look in there. Otherwise, edit /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xinit/xinitrc as root. Look at the bottom. Remove any commands that look like they're for GNOME, and put the "startkde" command (no quotes) in their place.

As for your flickering monitor, sounds like your frequency ranges are wrong. I can't help you determine what they should be, you just have to experiment.

About your monitor problem: Assuming you have more than 2 ports on your KVM, try switching the port from your KVM to your linux box. Also, check cables. I assume the BIOS screen on your linux box looks fine and doesn't shake. I also agree with Electrode when he said "sounds like your frequency ranges are wrong." Try looking up your monitor specs on a webpage. Then edit your /etc/X11/XF86Config (I'm not sure on the path on that one.) Be sure to back it up before (I learned the hard way ).

Thanks all .. my monitor actually had a driver in the redhat setup, so that's why I'm confused about that issue. I'm not really sure how to change my refresh rate either, cause I don't even know what it's at. I like KDE a lot better than Gnome ... gnome was really damn slow, just launching mozilla took a long time. Now onto my other question .. why the hell are these browsers (mozilla and konqueror) so slow? Both in gnome and KDE .. I'll do a http://www.hotmail.com or whatever and I wait, it looks as though nothing is happening and it's almost as if the browsers are crashed... what's the deal with this?
