How do I set up MS Exchange Server correctly?

Everything with it works perfectly except for using external programs (Outlook/Eudora...) to send mail to external domains (I can send to my own domain fine).

Using Exchange's webmail client, everything works perfectly - I can send & recieve everywhere fine.

Here is the error I get with Outlook when trying to send to other domains:

( Yes, I posted this in the Software forum, but its been several days without an answer. I'm hopeful that one might come more quickly from this forum)

Looks like you're problem is that you're trying to "relay" smtp mail, and it is being blocked or denied by either yours or another ISP that you are trying to "relay" through. P.S. For exchange related problems, try the forums at www.brainbuzz.com. They've got a few sharp exchange admins in their that can usually help you out.

The thing that doesn't make sense is that sending mail works fine through the web client.

You need to somehow inform Exchange which hosts are allowed to relay through your server.

I want *all* hosts to be able to relay through my server. Anyone know where I could find a setting for that?

Be careful with allowing "all" to relay through your server.

It'll only take a spammer a matter of days to find that hole and you could lose your ISP account over something like that.

People are always looking for open relays and free bandwidth.

Just watch for it.

Well, regardless, I need to find a way to let people send mail through external clients - TO external domains.

I found one help document that looks like it might solve my problem...

Of course, under 'tools', there is no 'Accounts' to choose. Only 'Site replication services', 'message tracking centre' and 'monitoring and status'.

!!! I found the problem. Under 'connectors', I made a group for my own domain. Then, it its properties, under 'delivery restrictions', I have to manually enter each sender address to the 'Accept messages from' part. The thing that confuses me is that I'd left the radio button for 'accept messages from everyone' checked.
