How do I set up my new hard drive as a bootable drive with one partition for Win XP SP2 before cloning?

I am replacing a 40GB hard drive with a 160Gb hard drive and am having a few problems. I am running Win XP SP2. In the past when replacing hard drives I have always used the bootable WD Data Lifeguard CD to do everything, but now it tells me I can't set up the entire 160GB as one partition. I tried setting up the drive in Win XP admin tools and used Windows Data Lifeguard tools to copy the 40GB partition over to the 160GB but it didn't work.

Could somebody walk me through exactly how to set this dang thing up and copy the old drive to new?

I could use ghost - but what is the best way to initially set up and partition the new hard drive as a bootable drive before I use ghost? That is where I am getting confused.

If you use Ghost, then you do not have to do any partitioning/formatting, etc.. Ghost will let you expand your info out over the whole 160 gig drive. It will also make it bootable, etc..

Just set the drive as your master on the primary IDE cable and use your XP cd and boot it up and format the whole thing, and install windows and all your software from fresh and then go through your old drive and take the stuff you want to keep and transfer it over to your new windows HD and then format that one and then Image the New HD and keep the image on your old drive for the next time you need to restore.

make sure your jumpers are set right, I'd make your new drive the prim master on IDE 1 and the old HD the Primary on IDE 2 and your CD or DVD driv/s slaves to them.
