How do I take advantage of Purevideo 2 in 8800gt?

So I just upgraded from a 7800gt to a 8800gt. I have a couple of 720p x264 movie files (mkv's) and was wondering if my card is capable of decoding these in hardware. Or does that only work for HD DVD and Blue Ray content?

With my 7800gt I use Coreavc to decode in software, and while this works fine, I was just wondering if my vid card is capable of doing the decoding instead.

I'm running XP pro Sp2 if it makes any difference. I'm wondering if maybe one of you guys could help clear this up for me... and sorry if it's a dumb question but I am just now starting to play with HD content.

You'll need to have Cyberlink PowerDVD Ultra or a similar product installed which supports PureVideo2. If you have PowerDVD installed you can use its DirectShow MPEG-4 AVC decoder to see if you can offload processing of AVC files to the GPU. However, I'm not sure if the DirectShow filter supports PureVideo2 (it does allow hardware acceleration but I don't know to what extent), so you may be out of luck when it comes to playing AVC-encoded movie files in an MKV container.

Actually, since you have XP, you're probably out of luck no matter what since Purevideo2 is so far only for Vista.

What is PureVideo 2? I have the PureVideo decoder which I bought a long time ago that plays dvds quite nicely through wmp.
