How do i tell my parents i want to goto junior prom?

My parents are pretty strict, dont want me having a girlfriend and stuff, and want to always know where im going....well i want to goto junior prom, and their gonna prolly pay for it anyways....so how do i tell em i want to go? should i leave out the part of the girl and stuff?

Mom, I'm going to go to prom on (DATE) with (GIRL'S NAME). It's over at (TIME) and I'll be back by (TIME).

It's prom, it's not like you have aids or something.

Tell them that you want to go to the junior prom, and that if you are not allowed to go you'll turn into some permutation of jerboy, and you will off them in some Menendez bros.-like fit of premeditated rage.

If that doesn't work, I'd go for the venerable "gay leather porno mag accidentally left out on the bed" trick. That really sends a message. They'll be dying to fix you up for sure then - or they'll send you to an all male prep school to "straighten you out."



Seriously dude, it is time for your testicles to drop. Tell your parents that you are sexually maturing and that you would like to go out and interact with members of the opposite sex, like normal high school kids do. Stand up to them, or you will be a millie for the rest of your life.

I went to my senior prom with a date...I just told them I'm going with this girl...what are they going to say? No? Tell them your going anyway. My parents are kinda cool that way, they let me have fun but they make sure I know my limits too. And I did..I didn't drink (I was driving) although I was seriously temped..

I took tons of pics..and showed them too...my mom did not like my choice in women..but that's another story..heh =)

Even though you are 16, and your parents are strict, it is time to start interacting with girls your own age. Tell your parents that you want to go to prom with a girl. If they pitch a fit, you may want to remind them that you will be in college in just over a year and a half. When you are there, you will get to date and do whatever you want and they won't be able to do a thing about it. Their baby is growing up, and it is time that they accepted that.

Just tell them. I got asked to prom my freshman year. It was wonderful! My parents were cool about it too... i just asked them, "can i go to prom?" and then when they pressed for specifics, i just gave them the details. No biggie. If you're honest then there shouldn't be any reason why your parents shouldn't let you go. If your parents are worried about "what happens after prom", then don't go to any after-dance parties. But usually those are the best parts

Exactly what pretty much everyone has said. Tell them you want to go to prom, you'll be going with a girl, tell them when and where it is, and when you'll be home.

If they say no, remind them that you're not a little kid now and are responsible enough to handle yourself, and that they can't keep making your decisions for you forever.

Forgot to add: This will be the perfect opportunity to show your parents that you're responsible and can be given a little more freedom. Tell them that.

my parents were pretty strict about things such as girls and prom, but I found if I give them all the major details (times, who I'm going with, place, etc) They were fine with it. As long as I paid, they really didn't care much . Basically, everyone else has the right idea.
