Continued from the previous thread.

Post here if you need some help or if you have some answers about getting various deals and promotions posted in Hot Deals. Please keep replies brief and on topic. Long discussions will only clog up the thread and make it difficult for anyone to find the answers they need.

Please do not post coupon numbers or links to sites that would be prohibited in other posts.

Requests for deals on specific items should be posted in the ~~~~ IWANNA ~~~~ thread.

Raves and rants about good and bad deals and vendors questions should be posted in the ~~~~ Brag & Moan ~~~~ thread.

Thank You, and enjoy yourselves here while lending a hand to your fellow forum members.

Hi, this might be a dumb question, but as a newbie be patient with me. Everyone always talks about getting a scan of the receipt for hot deals. Why is this? If you take a printed out, scanned receipt with a price to a store, won't they just tell you the price has changed since whatever date is listed on the receipt?

Well my friend, if you scan your receipt on a hot deal, we or you can all print it off and take it to the same store, or another competing store and try and get them to pricematch the price you paid for a particular item.

Example: A few months ago, office depot was closing out some motorola 2-way radios. The purchase price was $25 with a $20 MIR. They normally sold for $75+ without a rebate. I managed to get a few, scan the picture, and hosted it on my website so others could try and get a pricematch at another competitor, since office depot ran out quickly on these. Also, i took my receipt, and got Kmart to pricematch another pair for me at the same price.

Welcome to Hot Deals.

What NccOps said.

How do I pricematch something at one B&M store at a competitor's price if the store doesn't accept web printouts (doesn't PM online sites) and the product isn't on the sales flyer? What's the best method without actually buying it just for the receipt?

MillionaireNextDoor,

Not every Brick & Mortar (B&M) store has a pricematch policy.

Staples will pricematch both online stores and other local competitors.
They have a 110% Pricematch policy for local stores. For online stores, bring in a web printout. They will add shipping charges to the price.

OfficeDepot/OfficeMax will pricematch local competitors.

Bestbuy will also PM depending on store manager.. usually a manager will get involved even if you ask where their restrooms are.

If you want to pricematch, either bring in the other competitor's weekly circular or a recent receipt with price clearly shown. If you don't have this, write down the price and item # from one store (with their phone#), then present this information to the store you wish to shop. They will call the other store and verify the price.. then sell it to you at that price.

Be forward and confident.. If they give you flack or reasons why they can't, be sure to ask for the pricematching policy in writing. Also insist you will pursue this with their supervisor. Most will cave in acknowledging your victory.

Always be prepared and Good luck,
--RT

Rig,

Thanks for the info. I have a few more questions. They concern online PM on sites such as OM, OD, Staples, etc.

#1, why do they ask for the other site's next day shipping price?

#2, do you need to buy the item from them first?

#3, has anyone had any luck, good/bad, with these sites' PM?

Thanks for your help for another newbie.

K, maybe I didn't explain myself enough in my first post, it has went all day without being answered. Here is a scenerio of the question that I have.

Someone told me that they need the next day shipping price to figure the PM. Say I buy something from Staples for $20, and standard shipping is $5, but their next day shipping is $15. I find the same product somewhere else for $10. Their shipping is the same price. Should I order next day shipping from Staples, making thier order $35? and then I get it for $25 from the other place. If I ordered standard shipping from Staples, that would make their order $25 also.

Just wondering how this works, so I will know for future reference.

<< I have a few more questions. They concern online PM on sites such as OM, OD, Staples, etc.

>>

The site you are trying to get the item from will add the next day shipping price on to your order if that site they are adding on from has free shipping or reduced cost($3.95 for next day for an example ) that will be the added on next day shipping cost( not applicable sometimes if the item is having to be shipped from across the country via regular shipping...Staples sent me by ground took a week and half a CDRWriter to the EC from the WC..no charge on the shipping even with a PM to a competitor)

<< #2, do you need to buy the item from them first? >>

no

<< #3, has anyone had any luck, good/bad, with these sites' PM? >>

depends on your attitude, courtesy and politeness helps when trying to snag a PM

Sorry gump, didn't check back until now. Was going to PM you the info but it might be useful to others.

+ If you are pricematching a local competitor, they won't add shipping.

+ If you go to Staples with an online printout, you may or may not be charged shipping, depending on the clerk/store manager. If you are, try to talk them into just the $5 standard charge. (in their PM manual) If they continue to insist charging next day shipping, try to reason with them that, while your convenience of getting the item today is valuable, it certainly isn't worth $15+ and you'd be happy to redirect all your office supply needs to the company offering the item for less. If it's still a no go, refer on down to the cardinal rule.

+ Some people claim better success buying an item first then returning to pricematch, especially at Staples. However, you give up the ability to pricematch then surprise them with a coupon before you pay. You just have to feel it out.. some stores are better than others.. some will give you gruff if they offer a rebate and the other store doesn't.

+ The cardinal rule is: Don't give up. If you don't get it one day, try a different time of the day or try calling their 800#. Just like ScrapSilicon said: be kind and courteous, but also be firm and smart.

Strange question I suppose,

I was wondering if anyone had an idea of how to get the things that only ship to the USA, to Canada without it making the price jump too much higher?

QUICK QUESTION:

I am thinking of buying another digital camera using my Amex Blue. It's the exact same camera I bought in december. Can I still use the pricematching abilities of Amex for the exact same product but a second purchase?

Cheers,

Staples.... I used to work there, I hated it. Heres a tip:
When bringing in an online add for them to pricematch do NOT print out the shipping charges. It is Staples policy to add shipping and handling to online orders; if the customer provides it use that OR add $5. So if you don't show the shipping charge they can only add $5 and in most cases thats only half of the shipping. If they tell you they can't pricematch because you didn't show them shipping tell them its Staples policy to add $5, and tell them to check the policy themselves.

Did anybody succeed to use AMEX Blue to PM JandR?
I want to make a purchase on that website, but they have the stupid price protection policy but refuse to PM with a notorious vendor.
Any tips will be appreciated!

BB.com does not PM anyone....your local BB store might if you have a local B&M SamsClub (best chance of success would involve having SamsClub receipt but BB would probably say "our price same after the MIR" .. so ymmv ) <edit> your welcome

Thanks dude for the help.

I happen to have a BB and a Sams club 1 block away from eachother.

So this might be pretty cool to see how this works out.

Does anyone know if c2it is still giving away $10 for your first online payment? I don't see it advertised on their site anymore, but I am sure I read somewhere that this promotion was going to go till March 22nd.

Thanks!

How do i show the date when printing out a website for a Amex Blue pricematch? For those who have pricematched using websites, how did you show the date so that it is acceptable w/Amex? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Ok, I just bought 2 spindles of Fujifilm CD-R today(thanks to hot deal forum). I want to receive my rebate within 20 days, so I pre-register at www.myrewards.info. I click the submit button and the page says that I will receive my 2 ebate checks for $7 within 20 days after they receive all of the following paperwork:
1. a printed copy of the screen
2. original of the store register receipt with the eligible product circled
3. original upc code from the CD-R 50 pack spindle
4. the original ebate.
Now, here is the problem....on #2...do I really need to circle the items? that sounds stupid to me...also, what do they mean by the original of the store register receipt....do they mean the rebate form...or the rebate receipt.......or the sale receipt which I am supposed to keep for myself?
On #4...the original ebate? huh? what's that?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
