Actually, the OED doesn't even list his pronunciation as an alternate pronunciation, and neither does MW. I listed the Ancient Greek pronunciation, the English pronunciation, and his pronunciation, or the correct pronunciation, the good enough pronunciation, and his atrocity of a wrong pronunciation, respectively. no, the pronunciation is determined by the greeks. it's an ancient word. it's been pronounced one way for eons, and it will continue to be pronounced that way.

it was nice of the shoe company to retain the real pronunciation, but they aren't the ones who choose how to pronounce a word that is more than 2 thousand years old....
