Just curious how the general anandtech population approaches adds? In this day and age they are about a quarter of all internet traffic so im curious.

Do you block them through browsers running adblockers on each individual device? Through host files, or handle them at the network level? Or some other method i have not thought of?

Added Poll to OP.

Yup, adblock on PC and adblock even comes standard on Samsung phones.

AdBlock Plus, uBlock Origin and my VPN blocks ads/trackers. I also use AdBlocker PopUp Addon.

Adblock Plus

Not sure this is the proper forum, but a very good topic. I have used adblock plus for some time now, but am beginning to run into sites that detect the adblocker and require me to disable it before I can access the site. Is there any way around this?

Yep, a number of formerly "free" websites, like news websites, now have paywalls. Ad blocking blocking software.

I must admit, im suprised by the results. I would have thought the more tech inclined population of anandtech would have been more on the network level blocking side as opposed to the adblock on each individual device side.

I use pi-hole, took me 20 min to setup and cost $30 in hardware, and blocks all adds network wide, no needs to install anything on any end user device its all taken care of on the DNS level. This is worth it for the time factor alone IMO no need to screw with any client device ever.

What i have learned from doing this so far is a good 15-35% of internet traffic on my network is(well was) adds, i never figured it would be that much, kinda crazy actually.
