How do you an OEM install of windows 98?

Can you do an OEM install of windows 98?
One like HP and Dell do, So you can set it all up and then have the user type in their name and cdkey?

OEM software is basically the same as retail minus the flashy box and manuals. It installs the same way.

Unless you are talking about a "restore" cd, now that's something different. Typically you toss it in the cdrom drive and reboot and hit a series of keystrokes.

It can be done, you need the system builder preinstallation wizard for 98.
You may be able to find it in the system builder section of the microsoft site.

here is a tip for ya first format your hardrive than go to bios set boot cdroom than get out of there. boot it up follow the drirection on the screen than you will be fine . after install oem version than install all the basic thing first like graphic driver modem , soundcard or what ever you need to run your pc . don't install software yet . but only norton ghost 6.0 make a bootup disk from norton ghost after that shut down pc and go to bios set boot floopy disk than run the bootup disk from norton and make a ghost image to your a cd (you much have cdburner) this way every time you got problem than you can restore it quick without install your operation system again.

I'm surprised I'm one of only a few who does a custom OEM Windows installation. I use to work at a local computer shop and we created our own OEM installation for the computers we sold. This requires the Windows 98 CD, I'm not sure if the retail version has it since I only have the OEM CD.

1) insert CD into CD-ROM
2) open a MS-DOS prompt
3) change directory to \tools\admin
4) type the following command:

mkcwrt /C:"command.com /C mkcwrt.bat D: C:\Wizard"

and voila the Prinstallation Wizard is installed onto your Hard Drive. Remember to substitute "D:" with your CD-ROM drive letter and "C:\Wizard" if you want to install it into a different directory on your Hard Drive.
5) Goto directory where you install and run "Opkwiz.exe"

Besides being extremely cool to have your own picture or logo displayed everytime you go into System Properties, once you make a custom preinstallation disk you can install Windows entirely without having to choose the component you want installed, etc. Very useful if you reinstall often.
