Simply (they make Simply Orange and a bunch of other juices) also makes Smoothies now:

It has a perfect consistency. You can drink it out of the bottle, but it would be just perfect with super finely crushed ice from a blender. Mmmm.

Wow, I haven't seen that before - is it like a Naked Juice type of consistency?

Yeah it's somewhat new. I haven't had Nekked Juice before. Hard to explain the consistency... a thick drink is about the best I can come up with; I can't think of anything similar at the moment.

That's pretty good, as smoothie consistency in stored products can be hard because you have to keep things in suspension & keep the ingredients fresh, which is a difficult thing to do. I'll have to snag some today & see what magic tricks they used to get the formula right!

I can't remember if I've posted about it before, and I know it sounds gross, but I've been using hardboiled eggs in my smoothies lately. I had a friend who is on keto & introduced me to a chocolate shake made from hardboiled eggs, which sounded awful, but was actually pretty dang good, extremely filling, and gave me a lot of energy lol.

Today I tried a Cream Cheese smoothie:

Ingredients:

* 2 raw eggs (Rocky-style!)
* 2 tablespoons Cream Cheese
* 1/4 cup Heavy Cream
* 1 tablespoon Sugar-free vanilla sweetener
* 3 ice cubes

The only sugar-free sweetener I had available was Swerve, so I tried that (and forgot the vanilla, lol). It was good, but a little bland. Next time I'd just use regular sugar & some vanilla extract. I'll see if I die from the raw eggs or not, lol (note: you can pasteurize eggs at home in a sous-vide bath for 75 minutes at 135F). Tomorrow I'm going to try a Strawberry Cream Cheese smoothie, which sounds amazing:

I also haven't done much with lemon in my smoothies, so this one is Thursday's smoothie:

Hmm, maybe I should try combining hardboiled eggs with cream cheese to create a protein & fat-heavy smoothie...hmmmmm....

If it's too thick you just add some liquid. Nothing's easier than a smoothy... except for cleaning the blender, but that's easy too. Just spatula out (and eat), then pour in water, blend, pour out, repeat.

When I make smoothies, I put in frozen bananas (always have some), frozen blueberries (ditto), apple, whatever other fruit I have on hand, either kefir (if I have it) or milk.

i gotta get back on my smooooothy game man

I've been trying to do thicker ones lately with cream cheese & eggs (raw & cooked) - as weird as both of those ingredients sound, they're both actually super filling without tanking you. I had brinner tonight - pancakes, bacon, giant hashbrown rectangles, etc., and it zonked me right out lol. I can't do huge meals for breakfast because it puts my stomach CPU to 100% & just makes me sleepy for awhile. These thicker shakes have been doing pretty well for me, I just gotta nail down some good recipes to get the right balance of flavors. I've found you generally have two kinds of smoothies:

1. Blended stuff
2. Actual recipes that go together well, like PB&J

Actual recipes with smoothies are kinda hard because they're nuanced - you need the right mix & right combination of ingredients to nail down a "wow this is really good" smoothie. Because otherwise it just tastes like blended...stuff. Lots of my smoothie experiments are just stuff I have to chug & power through lol. But a large smoothie is $5 at Dunkin, so even mediocre ones aren't that bad in comparison, because I make make like a week's worth of smoothies for five bucks lol.

So I tried this the other day & was pretty impressed with the consistency...and the ingredients (other than "natural flavors") were surprisingly clean too! They had 3 flavors. I'm trying all of the flavors plain first & then I'll try blending in some protein powder & maybe some soylent, just to beef it up a bit nutritionally.

good lord. i don't know about the raw and cooked eggs things. let us know the results on that because i threw up a little in my mouth. lol

i think i'm going to test the cream cheese thing though. instead of spreading it on a bagel, i can try some in a smoothie for some creaminess.

It's low-risk if you used pasturized eggs. I've made a few with raw eggs & they were pretty good!

Hardboiled eggs smoothies are surprisingly good as well - the flavor gets blended in, so you just end up with a nice thick shake, similar to how a lot of cream cheese blends up.

I'd recommend letting the cream cheese sit out for a bit, as it blends up better at room temperature. I've made a few smoothies with it so far - haven't perfected the process, but I'm definitely intrigued with the results! Kind of the same procedure I had to do with adding avocados - the taste & consistency were really good, just took a few blender runs to dial in something that also tasted good!

My last 20 or so smoothies were super simple:

~8-12 oz home made kefir, made from dried kefir starter, accessible on internet.

~2 frozen bananas, cut in ~1" pieces

~2 T frozen organic blueberries, bought in 3 lb. bags at Costco.

600 watt Osterizer blender for a couple minutes.
