smoke pot.

That's got to be about the craziest response yet. Pot and alcohol can both lead to *increased* anxiety. Also, for those people who take "X" - that drug can whack the Serotonin process and leave you FUBARed for life.

Just get done watching Reefer Madness, did we?

"There's no chemical solution for a spiritual problem".
That's 30 years of alcoholism, 1000 or so meetings, 15 different medications, 100's of pshychiatric evaluations, a trip to the slammer, and dozens of trashed relationships talkin.
I had to get a spiritual angle or pull the trigger. I was without enough ballsack to pull the trigger, so I took time to be taught how to employ the "God angle".
Worked wonders for me.

I'm glad that you found a solution that works for your anxiety.

Yup, turns out the way my brain worked was my problem. Anxiety and depression was killin me. I wish someone would have suggested it 20 years earlier, not that I would have listened.
I didn't mean to imply it's the answer for everyone because I'm sure it's not.
I did feel the need to throw that out there for what it's worth.

In most cases, anxiety can be dealt with in many different manners. However, the main foundation for such dealings is the cognitive method. In your case, you developed a link to religion - which made you feel better about yourself and provided you with understanding. Others might go about it in a similar manner - but, without the religion component and still have success at beating anxiety.

You're right on the money tiles2tech. I don't have religion though, it just messes things up for me. I just have a spiritual God-based faith. Rational self analysis was a big help along the way, too. It was really the first step in realizing the way I thought was largely unhealthy and completely borked.
It was amazing to me to find out that the mind could cause so many physical problems. It still amazes me to this day.

Bullseye. In addition, limit your caffeine intake, and start (if you don't already have one) a regular exercise routine.

I've had anxiety for quite sometime. Making sure to relax is very important and counseling can help. I've also been on Paxil for a couple of years, and it seems to work quite well. I can definitely say I'm much more happy and relaxed now than right before I started taking it. Of course I would prefer not being on it, and hopefully I'll get there, but for now it works well for me.

There are a variety of anti-anxiety or anti-depressant drugs out there that have now gone generic..making them cheap if you have insurance and relatively affordable if you do not. Having dealt with anxiety-related problems most of my life I'll say that they can be beneficial...though be careful, you might end up in the guinea-pig cycle of trying med after med in order to find the one that best suits your needs (and to avoid some nasty side effects). Paxil is a popular choice, it worked for at least a year when I was on it but I went through some hellish withdrawl symptoms when I decided to quit (yes I did taper off, I'm sure it helped but I can't even imagine what it would have been like if I didn't--the nausea, dizziness, mood swings, sleeplessness, fatigue)...however, everyone's body responds differently to these sorts of things, and contrary to the un-educated beliefs of some, they do not change your personality or make you "weird". They are designed to help you deal with your problems in a more effective way (as opposed to jumping in the car and driving off to a different state for a while). Counseling in combination with medication (which is the route I took) seems to work well for a lot of people. They (the meds) do take a couple of weeks to a month to be effective, but the difference was quite noticable in my situation. Best of luck to you

I just sit down and start typing...don't ask

People stare at me in school occasionally when I sit down next to a disconnected KB and start typing like hell froze over...but then they realise my nick is neonerd, and they hold back on questions
