How do you define homophobia?

Hey People, quick question:

How do you define homophobia? Wikipedia defines it as:

Homophobia is a range of negative attitudes and feelings towards lesbian, gay, bisexual, and in some cases transgender and intersex people and behaviour. Definitions refer variably to antipathy, contempt, prejudice, aversion, and irrational fear.

Which leads to my question, for me homophobia encompasses any prejudicial discrimination against someone with homosexual tendencies, including bisexuals or homosexuals. So for example if someone didn't like bisexuals they'd be a homophobe, if someone was prejudiced in some way toward homosexuals they'd be a homophobe.

Now if you assume my definition is accurate and that any kind of prejudice based on someone who has homosexual tendencies then someone who is bisexual but doesn't like gay people would also be a homophobe of sorts (obviously a huge hypocrite as well)

Anyone agree? anyone disagree? If you disagree what do you define homophobia as?

A person that constantly calls others gay, homosexual, etc. I think homophobia is pretty wide set in American and many global cultures. The US govt recently put out a PSA against using the word to describe something which is stupid.

I think bigots are just good old fashioned bigots, and should be labeled as such. Homophobia makes it almost sound credible, those bigots don't deserve that many syllables. Some bigots are also afflicted by homophobia, but that is usually the least of their mental derangements. In my mind homophobia can exist without the hatred or resentment of homosexuals.

I know a lot of people who don't particularly care for queers but not one of them is afraid of them. You guys need to come up with a new term but I realize the intent of the one chosen so I just always laugh when I hear someone use it.

It's to point out how retarded that prejudice is IMO, most homophobes I know don't like homosexuals because they think that they will try to sleep with them

Sometimes a woman will drag you to a gay bar which isn't all that bad because there are a lot of single ladies there, then you will be approached by a homosexual telling you he sucks dick better than any woman and your night will be ruined. There is definitely something scary about the sexual aggression of a man being directed at you. That was the night I started to feel bad for women.

In all fairness to the gay guy, if you're in a gay bar... You're going to get male attention.

Aside from that, guys seem to handle the attention of men better than women do, (in terms of gay on gay guys vs heterosexual men on heterosexual women)

Men are quite sexual beings and as a result there's a lot of action to be had. gay bars are great fun! It's rare that I see anyone being aggressive.

That's definitely true, but the definition of homophobia seems to have progressed from the initial definition of phobia, that being said if you are to define it literally then it would mean fear, which is always entertaining when winding up those with a prejudice agains homosexuality.

Well not feeling sexual attraction to someone of the same sex and being discriminatory or negatively prejudiced to homosexuals is completely different. As long as you don't hate homosexuals or discriminate against them then I see no problem with your stance.
