How do you demo your rig to non-PC enthusiasts?

If you want to show your rig to someone who's unfamiliar with performance PCs, what do you run, show, or compare to demonstrate the power and advantages of a rig like yours vs. what you could buy from the blueshirts at Best Buy?

Well if you can get a 5 or 6 second boot time that would be good to show. Then immediately load up Skyrim for instance to show how fast it loads and how good 10 different graphics mods can help.

If it's a gaming performance PC being compared to an OEM "gamer" PC, I run a gaming benchmark or a game at high settings.

If it's a general purpose PC, I dunno if performance really matters?

The only exception was showing off my first SSD to my roomie. (In an old IBM Thinkpad T30.) It blew my mind and I couldn't help myself.

They had a similarly slow PC with XP on it, so the comparison of boot time and app loading was both direct, relevant, and drastic.

If they are a gamer, easy! Gaming benchmarks.

If not a gamer, then about the only thing is if your system has an SSD and you just let them boot it up and use it. That's worked for all the non-techies/gamers I've encountered. Even my mom's super cheap system (dual core Pentium G9650 socket 1156, 2GB RAM, 40GB Intel SSD, integrated graphics, Win7) seems awesomely fast to everyone who sits down and uses it.
