how do you diable that stupid MSN 4.7 for good?

Please help me people! Whenever I am connected to the internet MSN 4.7 logs on by itself, I have tried to disable the program's autorun option and tried to disable the MSN service with msconfig.exe without any luck, how do you make sure the program does not run when WINXP starts or how do you get rid of it for good?

run > services.msc > Look for MSM and disable it.

run it, open Tools > Options > General: uncheck "automatically run when windows start" "automatically login" "allow to work in background" (can't remember the exaxt words) but well... you got the point.

Unfortunately (for inexplicable reasons) you will *still* see MSN 4.7 running as a process (msmsgs.exe?) in Task Manager... there was a thread a while back that showed a command on how to remove it for good. Let me see if I can dig it up.

edit- found it. this is what i've done to several installs of WinXP now, and works like a charm.

Go to Start
Run
and copy and paste this line RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
and hit ok. it will start uninstalling from your PC.

run > services.msc > Look for MSM and disable it.

This is not MSN messenger, this is the messenger service. While they both may have "messenger" in the name they are entirely unrelated...

thanks guys for your great help! the thread worked particularly well, now when I use MSN 6.1 when I feel like it, the messenger service's memory usage is down to 4mb from 8mb, yeah!
