IF there is some sort of post-existence awareness, I hope it's just one big ass lucid dream where I can go around doing WTF ever I want for the rest of eternity.

Pshaw, by the time I'm old enough to die I'll be rich enough to become a deathless cyborg. For the rest of you peons, resistance is futile.

When you die you go to either heaven or hell. Heaven is a small room with a bed, small table and a chair. On the table is a computer connected to the Internet of all Internets. Anything you could ever dream of is available through this computer. All in super high def through virtual reality goggles. Just think of it visit any city, see any person, have relationships with anyone, live your dreams and enact all your fantasies. It's a real life holodeck.

Hell is the same room with a 28.8kbps connection.

u almost gave me a heart attack dude. BTW loooool funny as hell.

BTW on topic i dont care. I live my life day by day and do as i like. I enjoy my beer and smokes. I enjoy doing sports and feasting on burgers. I like to stay in shape but not for any other reason then i just like being in shape.

Live life to the fullest it will end when it ends. No point in being scared or thinking to much about it. It happend uncountable times already and will happen many more times. People die therefor we live.

It's bothering me more and more as I turn 40 this year. What's bothering me most is I'm just "average." I have a wife, kids, a house, 2 cars, a mundane job, and when I die, people will say "Oh, he was a good man," and then the world will forget about me a couple of months later. It almost feels like a waste that I've lived this long, used up a bunch of resources, and have not produced any benefit to mankind

It's hard to explain, but something like that.

Thats how the world is people die people are forgotten people live on. Only the ones that had an impact on the world are being remembered. In a good way or in a wrong way.
Most of us wont be remembered at al. But its up to us if we can change that. Can we do something to be rememberd for. Can we help this dying world or can we have such a heavy impact that we wont be forgotten.

Most people like to think we can. But eventually we all will be forgotten as people tend to live towards the future and not stay in the past.

I'm not too keen on the idea, and last night I had a dream that made me dwell on it. I dreamed my grandmother, who passed away from lung cancer, appeared in my dream to warn me that in 2088, there would be a blizzard here and no not go into the computer room during that time. I got to thinking, I won't be alive then.

I'll get to see my great grandmother again, so not too bad.

I would enjoy living forever though.

What I wonder about is that now we have consciousness, is death the total absence of it and that’s it? Or is it a transition to another consciousness or reality? There’s a quasi-consciousness in sleep since sometimes we remember our dreams, but what about death? Obviously no one’s got proof either way. It’s unknown.

Or what if this reality, this consciousness, is all one big dream, and our ultimate reality begins when we die (awake)?

I guess it's the thought of my life not making a difference in the long run. Sometimes itt just makes me feel like "Nothing I do matters, so why bother?"

we all gotta go sometime. i enjoy every second of this life, good and bad. i am eternally grateful for my existence. even the bad stuff that happens just reminds you that you're alive.

you can live a perfect healthy life and get struck by lightning... or you can drink and smoke and drug yourself into oblivion, and maybe you'll live to be 110.

freedom is all i need to be happy.

I just find it a tad frustrating that I'm losing hair, metabolism is slowing down, getting fatter, and many things that used to interest me, don't. I think when more stuff starts declining you'll look forward to dying because you'll never be young and vibrant again. Who wants to live longer being old and decrepit?

First I've heard of this...going to have to check into it. I'll get back to you in 40 or 50 years.

Maybe less if I have a bacon cheeseburger and onion rings for lunch.

Put a lot of pride, effort into something, and really care about something, and rest without burden with the idea that 50-100 years from now, your work will truly inspire significant change in society.

That's my goal in life. Whether or not it happens, but I won't drop without resistance until I can feel like I did enough work to make that even possible.

If that point is reached, I'll enjoy the release and the burden being lifted.
Half of that goal is also raising a mini-destrekor to be like papa destrekor. That's going to be awhile...

I think the ultimate goal of every human should be to try hard to live a life that is more than just the status-quo. Not simply living to get by and continue as if everything will always be the same... rather, contribute some way to the societal consciousness - do something that has the potential to reach the hearts and minds of civilization. We humans deserve brethren who wish to continually push for a better tomorrow. In the immediate future, our children deserve that.

The event itself would bother me. No idea how it will be like. I would rather it be a case of turn in one night and that was that. Either way, it is going to occur and we can't do a thing about it, except for those who life is shortened by either their own doing or someone elses (murdered, mugged, car wreck, drunk driver, etc)
