What doesn't it have to do with dying?
You can put effort into living "right", and live long. Or you can live however you feel like it, and probably die earlier, but maybe have a better life (diet and exercise only a cursory example of the ideology, don't read too much into it)
The realization that no matter how you live, death is coming, is what lets you realize that putting what would wind up being years and years of effort into living as long as you can is an exercise in futility.
I don't exercise so I can live longer. Longevity is a by-product of my motivation. I do it because I enjoy doing it and I enjoy being in shape. The results of a healthy body directly influence my quality of life.
That's not to say I don't enjoy a good burger, I do, but I think somewhere between Kate Moss and that 1,200-pound guy in Mexico a balance exists between good food and a healthy weight.
That being said, at times I’ve been terrified at the thought that I won’t be around anymore, but I’ve changed a bit of my thinking with regard to my place in this world, and really these days I don’t worry about it too much.
