How do you force XP to reinstall the USB 2.0 driver?

I think somehow my XP has been messed up to the point that it won't recognize any of the flash drives, it recognizes the USB mouse only when the mouse is plugged into certain ports, but not others, and it always recognizes devices that come with their own drivers(e.g. my printer). Any flash drive would show up as "Unknown Device".

I'm suspecting that the driver that's supposed to have come in XP SP1 is corrupted, but I can't figure out a way to force XP to reinstall it. I have tried deleting all the USB controllers and reboot, XP recognized them all but still refused to reinstall the driver. I can't find this driver on Microsoft.com either.

Any suggestions? Thanks a lot.

Upgrading to Service Pack 2 is supposed to do the trick. But in my expereince and in reality, that's a bunch of BS. If someone does have the solution to this please post it.

All my ports don't read USB 2.0 and I am on Service Pack 2. Did a reinstall, went from SP1 to SP2, nothin'. Reinstalled with SP2, nothin'. Tried different drivers, nothin'. I got it working once awhile ago, but even though it was usb 2.0 it stopped reading all the flash drives. Only would take usb mice. Pretty weird. Right now I'm sticking to the old usb. lol.

LOL SP2 is exactly what seemed to screw mine up.

Many people have this issue and I read somewhere that it is a quirk in the mb chips and I tend to believe that. Mine will work great for months and then screw up, but usually if I put in a mobile tray with an os on it, but mine is always usb2
