Are there other method's? I know if you have a cell phone under your name, and you don't pay that off and leave it to be forever, that can ruin your credit. How about magazine subscriptions? Please name other possiblities!

Thanks!

PLEASE NO "YOU'RE STUPID REMARKS," OR FLAMES TOWARDS ME. SIMPLE REPLIES WOULD BE NICE, THANKS!

Have you recently (within the past 2 weeks) been declined for a loan?

I believe your credit rating also goes down everytime someone does a credit check on you.

True, but only by a very small amount. Like 1/8 of a point of something.

Basically your credit rating will go down if you fail to pay anyone who has your social security number. If they don't have it, they can't access your credit report.

I believe it goes down if you get declined for a credit card also.. or anything else for that matter maybe?

And regards to the credit report.. it's small at first but goes higher and higher the more they have to do it (because they assume you're trying to do something and can't get approved maybe?) Atleast that's what the guy at Honda told me/us.

Boy there's a whole lot of things you can do to nuke your credit rating.
Not paying people is at the top of the list and includes a lot of categories.
Loan and credit card companies are very responsive to the credit bureaus because they use them.
Doctors and other medical services companies may send you long nasty letters about how not paying their bill will get you a bad credit rating, but I have personally experienced...how should I say....a lack of diligence on their part in reporting.
Utilities and anything you pay rent on report fairly quickly.

Having too many inquiries about your credit rating can raise flags with creditors. Moving around a lot does it too.

Having your creditor bought out by another company or anything funky going on with a creditor can reflect in your report. It doesn't necessarily mean something bad, but the fewer abnormalities in the report the better off you are.

Disclaimer: Not a credit expert...merely a recent mortgage refinancee.

Perhaps that is true, but they can easily go to court and get a judgement against you, especially if you fail to show up. That will show up on your credit reports.

How about overdrafting on your bank account by mistake and being charged $20 for it. Besides I have overdraft protection on my checking account.

Pay everyone you owe money to on time, and you don't need to worry.

Oh, don't let your card get stolen. That shows up too.

Call the CS number, cancel the sub., and PAY THE BALANCE, duh.

Judgments are REAAAAALLLLL bad. If they take you to court and get a judgment, it goes on the report, and the creditors freak out on that one!

Um... never knew the exact amount the credit checks would have. Is that an eighth of a point using that 700 or 800 point scale? Guess that'd be pretty miniscule.
