You get 1099 forms for your Checking accounts? I thought that you needed to get at least 10 bucks worth of interest before they sent you one. Considering that most checking accounts pay something stupid like 0.1% interest, you would need to be making mad bank for that to be an issue.

My wife and I share an savings account for our emergency fund, but the his/hers/ours accounts are all checking accounts.

The point would be we dont have multiple accounts to balance, do 1099s on, transfer funds between or worry about who has money to pay for what. I'm not saying it would work for everyone or that those are a ton of work but its additional overhead

I can’t even tell you the last time I balanced an account. Maybe in the 90s?

If you're married then it doesn't matter. But most couples I know that share a bank account don't have any real money to lose anyway if one should go and steal it, the other is no worse off.

Do you guys share clothes? That always bothered me with my exes. I like my stuff to be mine, and I want it available when I want it. Girls would wear my stuff, but it wasn't reciprocal, cause none of theirs would fit, and it would look pretty stupid. I was excited to score some boxers when I split from the wife, but it turned out they were women's. No fly :^S
I wore them anyway. Beats nothing :^D

Don't lie, you felt pretty in her panties.

Maybe a little...

:^P

I swear they looked like dress Stewart tartan EXCEPT the white had a slight pinkish hue. I figured the colors bled in the wash. I think I figured wrong. Oh well. They worked well enough, and are now in the rag bag. Best thing I got out of her aside from my daughter :^P

It's always communal in my relationships, two radically abused that and I was stupid. The last guy was naturally sober and a total angel. After his heart attack I discovered that he left me a ridiculous amount of money (money is as evil as booze in my blood family - I don't like money).

Go gay dude. The stereotype is true; in any gay relationship, as long as the partners are of similar size, you instantly double (or more) your wardrobe.

That's thing. If it isn't mine exclusively, I don't want it at all. I'm kind of funny with clothes. My work stuff is exclusively for work, even though I wear the same thing off duty. I don't mix them. The only time I'll wear my work pants is if I'm gonna be doing rugged hiking. I get long or extra long BDU/ACUs for work cause they blouse better tucked into combat boots, and use regular length off duty so they aren't dragging on the floor. I wear combat boots on rugged hikes, so I need the longer pants to go with them. Otherwise, I don't mix clothes.

Separate accounts, and a joint account we transfer money into monthly for bills. Separate accounts are nice because I can buy whatever I want without having to check with her.

A big reason for divorce is money. Everything split down the middle = no arguments.

all of our finances are combined

i'll never comprehend separating things, for us everything is shared-- the good, the bad and the ugly; we take it all on together

FWIW I don't check with my wife before I buy things and we have a joint account. Split down the middle could cause problems if there is a significant income disparity or one makes career choices based on joint decisions (Didn't take that big promotion that would require relocation.). (Also not saying what we do would be appropriate for everyone)

Neither one of us is a spendthrift so we just have joint accounts. My check goes into checking to pay bills and hers goes into savings. If we had differing spending habits I could see going with separate accounts.

Separate accounts but a joint for all regular expenses. We talk about large expenditures (travel, car, home, etc) beforehand and work out a split. Anything below that level isn't discussed. We both work for our money and don't feel inclined to tell the other how to spend it.

Dammit! I had a bunch of panty jokes lined up and now they are worthless.

I'm sorry, the mailman already left with the heavily used jockstrap addressed to you.

One joint account for paying the house. Both of us put a given % of our paychecks into here... my wife deposits a given % to her personal biggy bank savings. The rest goes to a "main" account in my name that is used for paying bills, credit card statements, or transferred to a savings account.

But... overall.. I manage all the funds anyways So even if it's in my wife's name - I move funds around all the time because she doesn't want to handle banking stuff.

We never have issues because neither of us are spending whores in the slightest, and overall our bank funds only ever go up - never down.
Pretty much the same for my wife and I.

Not really. Joint accounts make sense for couples that happen to be equally competent in managing their finances and controlling their spending. What would be absurd is insisting on joint accounts when couples are mismatched. I found out the hard way that my wife could always find reasons to buy things as long as there was a positive balance in our checking account. The best solution for us has been to only transfer into that joint account what money she can feel free to spend. The rest goes into accounts that I control for paying household bills, savings, and big ticket items. This arrangement has greatly reduced the head butting over our budget.

Understood; I was referring to my specific situation.

Separate bank accounts, separate credit cards. I keep just enough money in my account to cover my credit cards, the rest goes to my wife's account. She pays all the household expenses. It's still mostly my money doing so, but when we got married 18 years ago, I had terrible credit and just had a bankruptcy expunged. Now my credit is in A+ numbers. We just got used to doing it this way and saw no reason to change.
