How do you hold your mouse?

For my entire life I've held my mouse with my index finger on left click and middle finger on right click, switching my index from left click to scroll wheel/middle button when necessary

i recently purchased a logitech mx revolution and it seems to "fit" better if i use index on left click, middle on mouse wheel/middle button, and ring on right click

I thought I would just try it out to see how it felt, but it seems so natural there really isn't any learning curve. the only thing about getting used to stuff like this is that if i go to work and start to use my regular mouse it will probably hurt to cramp it all together so close

do most people use index/left, middle/scroll, ring/right and this is one of those moments i realize i've been doing it wrong? or do most people use index/left/switch to middle when necessary, middle/right?

Index finger on scroll wheel with the middle finger on the right click button. I move my index finger over when I need to left click on something.

Yep this is the correct way, isnt it just natural? I couldnt picture myself holding the mouse any other way

Right handed. Thumb curled around the back-left corner, pointer finger on the left button (and middle button when scrolling), middle finger on the right button, ring finger along the left side, with the pinky resting on the mouse-table interface, partially tucked under the ring finger.

Do any of you grasp the mouse with just your fingertips, or do your palms rest on the back of the mouse?

The grip you describe is what I use on all mice now, even ones that are really too small for it. My natural grip tendency was index on the left click, middle and ring fingers on the right click, pinky on the side. I retrained myself when I got a G5, although when idly holding the mouse, my middle finger falls to the right side of the scroll wheel.

From the knuckles forwards of all fingers and thumb is in contact with the mouse. The rest of my palm, and the heel of my hand, are suspended.

What is this "mouse" thing you speak of?
No one would spend several hundred dollars on a computer that required the use of a "mouse".

My hands are huge, so I use my thumb to hold the left side of the mouse and my pinky+ring finger to hold the left side. The heel of my palm acts as an anchor, never leaving the table.

My fingers automatically move in unison to counteract the arc motion when you move your hand left-to-right. The pointer pretty much moves in a straight line across the entire screen.

Interesting. Cause I remember seeing a friend who used to arch his wrist, kind of like if he was going to pick up a tennis ball, and hold the mouse with the thumb/4th/pinkie and use just his fingertips to click/scroll. At no time did his palm ever touch either the mouse or the table.

Index on left clicker, middle on right clicker. Move the index over to scroll. I actually hold the mouse with the thumb and pinkie, my ring finger just sits there. Usually my hand is planted by the lower right corner of the palm on the desk and it doesn't move from there.

How do you hold your mouse?

Such a deeply personal question!

Nevertheless I shall deign to answer: I hold my mouse tenderly and lovingly.

Then I bat it around and play with it, letting it think it can escape.

But I always pounce.

Eventually, it dies of fright and/or exhaustion, and I eat its still warm head, leaving the body as a warning to the other rodents that I am master of my domain and THAT I RULE!

depends how close the side of your hand is to the desk. I prefer holding the mx rev with the side my hand touching the desk, like your han dwould naturally be without the mouse with your arm resting on the desk. I find it more natural rather than trying to drape your hand straight over the mouse.

My hands are pretty big so my middle finger doesn't reach most scroll wheels without some repositioning so I use my index finger. My palm rests on the desk but that had been causing me some pain so I am trying to keep it up higher. I really need to buy a wrist pad...
