How do you install win2k after XP?

Hi.

I have XP installed on my machine, but i want to dual-boot with win2k. Problem is that i dont know how to install win2k when i have XP already installed. When i put the win2k CD in, it says that i have newer OS already installed and it disables the setup option. So, how do i dual-boot win2k and XP? i really dont wanna reinstall XP again, and then start with installing both OSes. There must be an easier way...???

well, I've never personaly dual booted, but I do know you need to isolate the 2 operating systems from each other. If you have enough room, you need to make another, seperate partition to install 2K on.

I was able to put Win2K and WinXP on the same partition. Win2k goes into the c:\WINNT while XP goes into c:\Windows. I had win2K on there first than I added WinXp. I assume it should work the other way around too.

I've already made the other partition. The problem is that i dont know how to install it on that new, empty partition when i already have XP installed....

Piece of cake man...Just boot off your XP CD, then it will start the XP install and ask which partition you want to install XP. Now just highlight the partition you have set aside for XP. For instance, if you have 2000 on C:, you'll install XP on D:. And just an FYI, ALWAYS install your OSes on separate partitions. If you install them on the same partition, you're just asking for trouble! Now when you have XP fully loaded, at boot up you'll have the choice of booting into 2000 or XP.

hmmm...ok...i'll try again. I have already installed XP on my machine. I want to install win2000 now! Thats the issue here...

Then just do it in the reverse order I showed above. If XP is on the first partition, boot from the 2000 CD and install 2000 on the second partition.

OK, but how do i boot from the win2k CD? I've tried setting the BIOS to first boot device: cd rom drive, but still it wont boot from the CD...Do i have to have a win2k boot disk ? if so, can anyone mail that to me? my address is:

If you have a legitamate 2000 CD it IS bootable. However, some systems require you to hit a key to engage the CD. For instance, you'll see something like this at boot up, "hit any key boot from CD."
