How do you install windows 2000 on a different partition... (when xp is already installed)

Hello-

My 300gb maxtor diamondmax10 hard drive currently has 6 different partitions:

Partition 1 is 10gb and has my main OS (Windows XP) in it. This is my C: drive.
Partition 2 is 10gb and it is empty, for future full OS install. This is my D: drive.
Partition 3 is 10gb contains windows Vista beta. This is my E: drive.
Partition 4 is 20gb and I use it to install applications. This is my F: drive
Partition 5 is 80gb and I use it to install games. This is my G: drive
Partition 6 is about 180gb and I use it for video editing and storing music. This is my H: drive.

I want to install a new OS, which is windows 2000(sp4 integrated), onto my Partition 2 (which would be my D: Drive). However, Windows XP will not let me install windows 2000 directly from XP because the setup complains that windows 2000 is a lower version than windows XP. -However, This isn't the problem.

Heres my problem:
When I instead try to setup windows 2000(SP4 integrated) from the blue setup screen, Windows 2000 setup does not detect the different partitions I have created. It instead detects the hard drive as a full 137GB Hard drive with Windows XP installed in it.

As you can see from my partition 3, I had no problems installing Windows Vista on Drive E: because unlike the windows 2000 setup, windows vista was able to detect my full hard drive and my different partitions from setup.

So how do I install Windows 2000 on my D: drive?

a quick and rough answer / suggestion:

You can try the old ways of installing multiple OS's on your PC

Wipe it all completely, then?

Partition your pc the way you want it, then install 2k pro on c, xp pro on d and vista on e (or any other combination / of drive letters / partitions) Then utilize a boot manager program or windows should be capable of providing a menu / you can script your own in the MBR.

I haven?t tried vista yet, but im sure it?s capable of everything 2k and xp has to offer.

You could also try a partitioning tool such as partition magic to HIDE your xp and vista beta partition(s)?. Install 2k pro and then UNHIDE your other partitions. You may end up having to use a boot manager though. I think hiding and unhiding could mess with the MBR to a point where you would have to re-write one (in order to boot all 3 individually).

You could also look into VMWARE and run all 3 os?s at once.

Hello, squire.
Recently, I was helping my friend to install second OS (Windows2000) whereas he had already installed Windows XP.
So first we created another partition. For this we use Acronis Disk Director, because it already includes OS Selector, it allows to make one of OS hidden.
Well, after that we inserted win2000 CD and start installing. It shown us all partitions.
But note: How many primary partition do you have and wich one?
Make your "D" drive primary and active!(it's really important).

before doing what ever, just back up your boot.inf file on a floppy.
