How Do you Login to Root

To day I installed Mandrake 9.1 After I made another accout I need to log in to Root to get something to work but if I logout there is no option to login to root

Just open up a command prompt and type in

su

It'll ask you for the root password and you can act as root from that terminal.

If you are allready logged into an X session, then just open a new terminal window and type:
su

It will then ask you for your root password...but be careful being root will let you do anything you want to the OS...and you could really screw stuff up.

If you want to be safer, do a google search for sudo and read up on it .

Thanx, but that is not realy what I was looking for, I need to chang to Root in KDE. In the login only my user name is there.

Why do you need to log into KDE as root?


Anything you can do with the GUI can be done with the CLI.

I am trying to make a LAN with a XP box but looking at the network from Linux

I get Error - Konqueror
Inorder to use the LAN Browser the lisa daemon must be
installed and activated by the system administrator

I gessed the first step to get that fixed would be to login to Root

As I sayed befor I don't need to do it a Terminal but in KDE.

You do not have to login as root into KDE to do this...

before you go any farther and destroy your install...STOP AND RTFM.

I am not trying to be rude, but linux is not for the average computer user yet..nor is it for someone that is afraid to get their hands dirty and read some.

Well I have read so much BS from help me docs and webpages, I can't find any thing to help me do yall know a good Help Page for a newbe

You can start LISa at boot by typing "insserv lisa" right after you start it manually with "rclisa start"

edit - im not saying this will work, i just googled it and you should try

ok, When do I type that in becous I tried the Terminal and that says Bash: rclisa: command not found, Bash: insserv: command not found

for reference all of the systemwide linux config scripts are located in the /etc partition/folder

All i need to to is share Files with the Linux and XP boxes i can go from Linux to Xp but not XP to Linux. I have most of the network working I am sharing internet from the xp box and it is woking

Yes i do , but init.d is a link to a folder, not the folder
