Microsoft Groove is amazingly simple and accessible on all my devices. I have 100+gb of music, I travel often and I drive 2+hrs per day so I use all kinds of devices. Nothing beats it.

I have a pretty awesome vintage vinyl collection of classic rock. When in the mood I use my bluetooth turntable and just stream it through my sound system. Certainty not as convenient as digital media, but I enjoy the experience.

Squeezeboxes and Logitech Media Server (LMS) running on one of my network file servers. Library of about 3600 albums encoded in FLAC. I have that same library transcoded to MP3 for use on my portable SanDisk players (a Sansa Clip and a Sansa Fuze).

I have a Slim Devices Transporter in my main system in the living room, a Touch in my kitchen, Logitech Radio in the bathroom, and a Squeezebox2 in the bedroom. All on wifi. One really nice thing for whole-house audio is that they can all be synched together perfectly if I choose to do so.

It's all controlled either from the LMS web interface, the Touch's touch interface, IR interfaces on the Transporter or SB2, or these days more often from an Android app (Squeeze Ctrl) on my phone.

Since my family all has iPhones I subscribe to apple music and have the family plan. It's $15/mo but we can listen to whatever we want from out iPhones, iPads, or computers (via iTunes). Sure it's not lossless but we aren't audiophiles and I don't have the equipment to tell the difference.

Buy CD, Rip to FLAC and add to the server.

At home, same as OP i'll play the entire album through KODI which I can play in any room in the house.
I also upload a copy to google music if I want to listen when I'm away from home.

In the car its analogue radio FTW, can't beat BBC Radio 4
