Just kill a store owner, and stand behind the counter. It may take some time though. You'll probably have to stand there for a few days first just so the locals will be aware of you (and you can't 'wait' it out either... it's gotta be real time), but eventually they'll start buying goods from you.

Do i need to max my merchantile skill do do that, in order to make customer buy gears?
