How do you prepare your shakes?

I'm fed up with the new EAS stuff I got...it tastes fine, the nutritional numbers are fine (I'm not that picky), but it clumps up A LOT. I've tried powder on bottom of shaker cup, then water, and vice versa...still a bit of clumping. Glass and spoon, I have to stir and press the clumps against the side for a solid 2 minutes. I've no intention on having to use the blender for every single shake I make, but it's getting damn annoying. Maybe one of those Magic Bullets? But they're so limited in volume.

Anyway, I'm going to stick to ON, which I never had a problem with. But in the meantime, any tips or tricks are welcome.

I use a Magic Bullet when I'm at home for protein-only shakes. If I'm mixing in other things with the protein (oats, frozen berries, etc.) I use the full size blender. At the gym, I use a shaker bottle. The key to avoiding clumps is having a completely dry container when you put the protein in and starting to mix as soon as you put the water in.

yeah, I dunno...I think it's just the EAS powder and I won't be able to get around with it. I'm really thinking about the Magic Bullet though, I could probably bring it on the road with me and throw in some fruit and stuff. Then again, I'd have to go buy some fruit-flavored powder too...

bah.

Evil Yoda i've had your problem i can't tell you how many times. I went to target and bought a shacker cup that has a "grid" that the mix goes through and i very rarely have any issues with clumps while im on the fly. If its while im home i have a hamilton blendor with a dispenser on it that will blend it then pour it for me.

I will say i've gotten the GMC stuff and it taste horrible but no clumps. But i stick with EAS even if theres a clump here and there. I tried the shaker cup at GMC that is battery powered and mixed the drinks but it sucked in comparison

Fancy: PB+ on whey + Cottage Cheese + skim + ice cubes in a blender
Dirty Shakers: Just a scoop with milk or water in a plastic cup (doesnt blend up all the time
Clean Shakers: A scoop with milk or water in a shaker.

Nothing mixes better on the go than a shaker. Too bad they dont make disposable ones.

EAS is terrble. ON FTW

Boo. I'm looking at eBay for a Magic Bullet...it might be a good idea for making up snacks and smoothies when I'm working on the road, which will be most of Jan-April.

stupid clumps!!!

I just grabbed a tub of EAS from Wally world earlier this week. With a shaker that has the grid at the top I get it to blend just fine with no clumps. I'm doing one scoop of whey and adding in about 8 ounces of milk on top (1%), and shaking for 15 seconds or so.

I've found that if I dump in the whey first, then pour the milk and let it sit for a bit before shaking...I have a higher chance of a clumpy shake. But if I pour, cap, and shake immediately it's just fine.

Never had an issue with clumping with a shaker cup. Like vi said - shake immediately and you're less prone to clumps. (I normally use ProLab, but never had a clump issue with Designer or ON)

I use a shaker cup and shake the crap out of it. I don't have the time or energy to haul out a electronic device all the time. I still get a few clumps from some brands, but not horrible.

Optimum Nutrition was great for not clumping. It is getting pricey though.

I also hear great reviews about this item called The Blender Bottle. It's a shaker with a metal whisk ball inside it. People are raving about this thing. I'll probably toss one in my next order.

I used a cheap handheld milk frother, like what they use to make lattes.

I guess I just have bad luck...I always shake immediately after combining wet and dry ingredients.

Thanks all

BLENDER BOTTLES FTMFMMFMFMFMFMFMW!!!!!!!

Best shaker bottles there are. Period. No leaking, durable as anything, mixes very thick shakes well as well as thin, no leaking, great top, dish washer safe, no leaking, cheap, no leaking, great spout, and no leaking. Plus it is the only one out there that does not leak!

I use the EAS vanilla. I put it in a blender with milk and frozen raspberries then giver for about 20 seconds. It is sooo delicious. The frozen raspberries make it extra cold and tastey. I used to think using the blender was a pain because of the extra cleanup, but I will never ever do it any other way ever again.

Raspberries.

If it's just protein powder, I use a stick blender. You can find an inexpensive one at Walmart for ~$10. If I'm mixing in fruit, or anything else that requires a more powerful chopping, then I use the blender. My Oster came with the blending pitcher, but you can also buy blending cups, so you drink from the same container that you blended it in (just change the lids).

I find it amusing that I'm resisting the change to involve more effort, when the process takes place typically right after a full workout.

laziness FTW.

Try the Turbo Shaker cup, I've been using it for at least 5-6 years and will not use any other. I had the same clumping problem, with this cup it's like night and day.
Recently a friend of mine tried it and almost yelled at me for not telling me about it for such a long time, he was using the normal shakers.

quick google: http://www23.netrition.com/net...haker_bottle_page.html

Try it... it's $$$$$

I actually had one of those (loved it) and lost it at a job in wisconsin...couldn't find it after a few searches, so I gave up. Thanks, I might pick up a few!

I drink Kefir. 14g of protein per serving, plus the live cultures do wonders for the digestive tract. Sometimes I add some protein powder to it and mix it up.

Most of the time after I come home from working out I will make a smoothie in a blender. I use ice, skim milk, vanilla yogurt, frozen fruit, and the protein. It tastes very good to me and is very much like a Smoothie King smoothie.
