You're pronouncing an American car brand the way it would be pronounced in Japan. If Honda wants to pronounce it that way in Japan, they can go right ahead. But in the US they pronounce it 'ak-yur-ah' in their own commercials - THAT is how you've been proven wrong.

You mean all those acura commercials are acutally pronouncing their own product correctly? It's can't be.

But it's still fun to watch him dig a hole.

I just watched this video ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ernHGtKzCyQ ) a couple times in a row (way too many times to watch an Acura commercial) and I still hear a-cu-ra. At the most, you could claim they pronounce it acu-ra. Your "ak-yur-ah" sounds like they've got southerners doing the commercial .

Yet, Acura doesn't contain the two constant continuation and is more like the word acute when it comes to the proper pronunciation for the first 'a'. Acute's syllable break-out is a·cute, notice the separation between the 'a' and the 'c'... that's what I've been pushing the entire time.

I guess you've decided to ignore a couple of common English words that start with acu, acuate and acumen, as well as just about every word where "acu" appears in the middle.

Acute's not common ? Acuate shows up as ac-... but acumen showed up as a-c... and ac-... .

I'm just trying to say that there is a distinct 'a' sound in the name and no southern drawl .

Now, what's really interesting, is if you look at the Japanese Katakana for the name Acura, ????. This romanjisizes into Akikura.

I hope this is just an honest mistake, because that's obviously a kyu ra, not a ki ku ra.

OK, if they're pronouncing it in that commercial the way you think it's supposed to be pronounced, then you suck at spelling out the pronunciation of a word, and you suck at understanding how other people are pronouncing a word. What you hear in that commercial is the way nearly everyone in this thread (except you and the OP's friend) say it should be pronounced, and it is not the way you appear to be saying it should be pronounced.

You said:
Ah-cuh-rah

Any English speaking person would pronounce the 'uh' in the middle like the 'u' in 'bus;' in the commercial it is like the 'oo' in 'food.' An English speaking person would pronounce the 'ah' at the beginning and end like the 'o' in 'bottle' or the 'u' in 'bus;' in the commercial it is like the 'a' in 'alvin.' And the 'cu' in the commercial is pronounced like the name of the letter 'Q' which is not at all reflected in your pronunciation there. That 'Q' sound is why you are seeing people put the letter 'y' in their pronunciations. 'Q' sounds like 'kyu' (people use the 'k' to represent a hard 'c' sound)

At very least you don't know how to pronounce accurate, because Acura is pronounced very similarly to the beginning of accurate, and you say that is not correct.

I think we've all wasted a lot of time here.

Do you know how the english language works?

Honestly.

You're posting non-sense and trying to pick apart words based on sylables just on combination alone. It doesn't work like that.
