Let me clear this up. While most people pronounce it "anand", the correct way is "anand".

it's more like UH-nund. lots of indian names start with "A" but it's not supposed to be pronounced "ah", but "uh".

Anyway, I always used to say An-and, but after listening to that CNET radio thing, I came to realize it's closer to Uh-nond.

ah-nand(th) the "th" is VERY slight, barely noticable, kind of part of the d. Basically just a soft d.

I know how it is supposed to be pronounced, but with my British accent I have always pronouced it:

Ann-and with the emphasis on the first syllable.

After listening to the radio show I know how it should be pronounced, but it is hard to change the habit of a lifetme (or atleast the habit of the last four years or so.)

 

Gosh! Is there a rule that this question be asked every month?

Anyway, I pronounce it "A" as in "apple" "nand" as I would 'nand' gate. So, it's A-nand. It's an Indian name, so I'm not about to abuse it or mess with it, I suppose.
