How do you pronounce id?

[Confused]

I've always pronounced it as 'eye dee', but I heard a gamers channel on Sky TV in the UK call it 'id', as in 'hid' but without the h.


Just something that got me thinking

I'm going with the second option. I read an article years ago when Doom II first came out and they mentioned that it used to be "ID" which stood for "In Demand". They thought it was pretty lame and decided to change it to the lower case "id", as in the Freudian term.

Whoa ... I always said id, but I have a family friend that knows the id founders. Weird story too, he met them at the opening of a QCity (QZar) after building the place. He also built computers here in Dallas (Richardson is really close). So, he still talks to them, and I have met them too (They game me free autographed Q3 Arena) woot.

It's id, like the pyschology term. That is straight from the horse's mouth.

I thought it was quite peculiar when I was watching some video gaming show on there (Sky) in the early 90s and they referred to the Super Nintendo as the "Snez"

Yep, it's that one. are they capital letters? nope. therefore it's not Eye Dee, and it doesnt stand for anything, it's a crazy freudian id, ego and superego reference.

I've always said, and heard, it as "Snez", never each letter individually. The NES I've always heard/said as "Nez" too.
