Poll?

The only person I knew with that name was pronounced "win". As in ... "I won!" ... oh wait .... as in "win-dow"

Note to Vietnamese people: Please spell your name in a way that we can pronounce with our clumsy Western Tongues!

Learning Thai for some time helps me pronounce it. The "ng" sound is used in Thai a lot as the beginning sound, but it is never used at the beginning in English... Rather interesting actually. Pronouncing the "nga ngu" letter of the Thai alphabet kicked my ass for quite some time.

Phuc Dat Bich (not sure if that's really a name but it sounds totally Vietnamese) is pronounced "fook dut bick"

The basic answer I've always heard for this is "win."

However, a Vietnamese man I was friends with was named "Ngoi." It was pronounced noy, rhyming with toy, troy, boy. If both names have the same rules of pronunciation, then Nguyen should be pronounced something like new-win.

Vietnamese is mono syllabic, Nguyen is only 1 syllable.

I've always heard "win" as well. My Vietnamese friends have told me the more-proper pronunciation before, but I've never been able to accurately reproduce it; "win" is just the most accurate alternative, from what I can tell.

Sadly, it was most unfortunate that I had to get that from the video...
